Many people think of smooth jazz as something that didn't start until the 1980s, but arguably, smooth jazz started around 1966-1968 with the overtly commercial, pop-drenched albums that guitarist Wes Montgomery recorded during the last few years of his life. Für alle profilierten Jazzformationen, die sich dem Erbe der BG-Combos verschrieben haben, versteht es sich von selbst, dass sich billige Imitationen der Originale verbieten. Vielmehr integrieren sie in ihre Arrangements und Interpretationen ein hohes Maß Eigenständigkeit, machen dabei jedoch stets die Linien der historischen Originale erkennbar.Diesen anspruchsvollen Herausforderungen werden die Musiker von „Special Delivery” mithoher Souveränität gerecht; ein außerordentlicher Standard beim kreativen Nachempfindender Originale ist ihnen zu attestieren.
