||An excellent collection of almost all unreleased material.|
I have just recently become a beach boys fanatic and this cd is excellent to say the least! It's 25 songs which have never been released before, with the exception of two songs "Surfer Girl" and "Brian's Back". The cd opens with two different versions of a jazzy song Brian wrote with Rick Henn of the Sunrays. The cd continues with a live medley of early Beach Boys favorites and stereo versions of "Kiss Me, Baby" and "California Girls". Things then start to get interesting with an excellent live performance of "Good Vibrations" that was intended for an album that was never released. I don't think Brian is not on that recording. An excellent demo of "Heroes and Villains" follows. This demo features Brian on the piano and Van Dyke Parks in the background. After about a minute and a half Brian breaks into "I'm in Great Shape" and then "Barnyard" which features Parks making animal sounds in the background. After that is a breath taking version of "God Only Knows" live. It features Brian humming the notes of the french horn at the beginning. Following that are excellent live versions of "Darlin'" and "Wonderful". After that are excellent demos of "Do It Again" and "Break Away". Two versions of "Sail Plane Song" follow, an early psychedelic version and a recent one produced by Al and Brian. After that is the delicately beautiful "Barbara" written by Dennis. Following that is a new version of "'Til I Die" which has a bass intro. It's just as deep and haunting as before! After that is an energetic live version of "Long Promised Road", "All Alone", "Brian's Back", and "Endless Harmony".
I hope this has been helpful.
