| | Paul McCartney Back To The Egg CD (1979) (Import) Bonus Tracks; Remastered; United Kingdom
70'S Radio Hits: Vol. 4 CD music
$11.79 Dutch remastered rerelease contains three bonus cuts--"Daytime Nighttime Suffering," "Wonderful Christmastime," and "Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reggae."
BACK TO THE EGG features 2 songs performed by the "Rockestra," a McCartney project that collected a cast of star performers (Pete Townshend, David Gilmour, etc.) and put them in an "orchestral" setting (ie. string section, horn section, piano and percussion sections). The two songs are "Rockestra Theme" and "So Glad To See You Here." Though he's got an old school Entertainer streak a mile wide, in evidence ever since his early Beatles cover of "Til There Was You," McCartney never forsook his rock & roll roots. Consequently, even though he dished out his fair share of frothy pop ditties with Wings (of which there are a few fine examples here), he's always been ...
| | Paul McCartney Venus & Mars CD (1975) (Import) Bonus Tracks; Remastered; United Kingdom
70'S Radio Hits: Vol. 4 music CDs
$7.49 All songs written by Paul McCartney except "Medicine Jar" (Jimmy McCulloch/Colin Allen) and "Crossroads Theme" (Tony Hatch).
Includes 3 tracks that were not on the original release of VENUS & MARS.
VENUS & MARS is an interesting mix of musical styles, punctuated by Paul McCartney's unerring sense of melody and hooky songs. Along with founding members Paul McCartney, Linda McCartney & Denny Laine, recent additions Jimmy McCulloch (ex-Thunderclap Newman) Joe English rounded out the band on guitar and drums respectively. Guests for these sessions (partially recorded at New Orleans' famed Sea Saint Studios) included N'awlins pianist Allen Toussaint, saxophonist Tom Scott and guitarist Dave Mason.
The highlights include the hard-rocking anthem "Rock Show" (later used to great effect in ...

70'S Radio Hits: Vol. 4 songs
$3.68 The second volume of Rhino subsidiary Flashback Records' '70s Radio Hits series is focused on the spring of 1970, presenting ten songs that were in the Top 40 in that season, five of them gold records. The artists are almost all one- or two-hit wonders: Vanity Fare's "Hitchin' a Ride" ...

| | Rhythms Del Mundo: Cuba CD (2006)
70'S Radio Hits: Vol. 4 CD music
$15.65 Turning the covers album concept on its head, Rhythms del Mundo: Cuba doesn't set a varied group of northern artists loose on the music made famous by the Buena Vista Social Club, but instead sets the Club's members lose on the northerners' own songs. Now that's an inspired idea, and all to aid charities assisting the victims of natural disasters and raising awareness of climate change. However, to call this a covers album is a bit misleading, as most of the songs feature the original vocals, and occasionally some of the original instrumentation, but it's not a remix project either, as the Social Club add their own music to the original recordings. So, it's a grand fusion of Cuban and northern sounds. And eclectic to boot, with songs contributed by such international artists as Quincy Jones, Sting and U2, as well as the likes of Radiohead and Coldplay. But to give the set a real frisson, the Social Club also took on such younger, feted artists as Franz Ferdinand, ...
| | Oliver Wakeman 3 Ages Of Magick CD (2001) Import
70'S Radio Hits: Vol. 4 music CDs
$18.59 It seems this album has been tailored for fans of Yes and particularly of their colorful keyboardist, Rick Wakeman. The latter's son, Oliver, is at the helm of this project, which shares thematic similarities with dad's Myths and Legends of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Granted, there is something unfair about comparing Oliver Wakeman's music with his father's, but who could do otherwise? Everything he knows about music he learned from his father. He plays the piano, ...
