This operatically menacing Finland outfit's third record is a showcase for frontman Alexi Laiho's prog-meets-death-metal songwriting imagination and the near-euphoric, omnipresent keyboards of Janne Warman. Still navigating their chosen terrain, Bodom spreads its wings wide on tracks like "Bodom At Midnight," which toggle between familiarly punishing riffs and orchestrated flourishes which border on the theatricality of The Trans-Siberian Orchestra. But when they forge a middle ground on the cathedral-goth synth-stomp of "Everytime I Die," Children begin to hint at their soon-to-come maturation.
Black metal with the happiest keyboards the genre has ever seen, yet still uncompromisingly brutal. "Children of Decadence" could be Emerson, Lake & Palmer, for the love of Beelzebub; such is the level of complexity and prominence of synthesizers. The frightening Finnish fivesome does a nice job of mixing up tempos on this, the band's third studio disc, and manages to keep up the intensity in spite of (or maybe because of) the aural auditory mood swings. You don't need to wait any longer! The acclaimed and, among music fans, craved for debut album of the Swedish rock band Ritual, originally released back in 1995, will be out in February 2004, distributed by InsideOut Music/SPV. This will be the first time that the debut CD entitled "Ritual" is available world-wide! The record was remastered by Hans Fredriksson at the Rommaro Studio, one of the top studios in Sweden. It's remarkable, what Fredriksson gets out of the mixing which already was very good at the time of the first release.
