This DVD features the Blue Man Group who set the theatrical world on fire with off-beat humor, tribal music and stunning visual effects. Includes 14 tracks such as "Unte Live Wire," "Cat Video," "PVC IV," "Shadows" and more!

Blue Man Group is a performance art ensemble that combines music, mime, theater, and dance and blends them into a style unlike that of anyone else currently treading the stage. Audio is the DVD version of their first album, in which the group performs the music they've composed for their performances (as well as several numbers original to this release), often using unusual instruments they created themselves. In addition to accompanying videos, this DVD edition of Audio also features a special 5.1 Surround Sound mix which takes advantage of the higher sonic resolution of the DVD format, as well as providing directional clues which add a new dimension to the music. ~ Mark Deming For years before the release of their debut CD AUDIO, the Blue Man Group had been dazzling audiences with theatrical performances that featured their unique music along with their zany yet focused visual presentation. Onstage, the trio (augmented by additional instrumentalists) plays a percussive, almost tribal brand of instrumental music that involves both ancient instruments such as the cimbalom, and Blue Man-invented items including the Drumbone and the Drum Wall. With a combination of Ennio Morricone-ish guitar lines, overwhelming percussive thumping, and a combination of acoustic, electric, and electronic sounds, the music of the Blue Man Group suggests some alternative universe where pop as we know it has a slightly skewed character. Blue Man Group Audio Songs Audio Music Review Average Rating: (4.7 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Wow. I picked up both Blue Man group surround titles once I had the equipment to enjoy them with (DTS & Dolby Digital 5.1), and I must say this debut album was the more satisfying of the two. Both are great, but this one felt like listening to a whole new album, and even includes some interview material on the flip side of the disc. Highly recommended. Awesome Perfect 5.1 sound mix, interesting literature. Anyone who loves interesting surround-sound will find this of the best clearity and quality. The unusual instrumentation, especially the percussion is mind-boggling. Electronica music with percussive instruments. Looking forward to buying their "Complex" album which includes vocals. Excellent example of DVD-Audio I heard the Blue Man Group puts on a really entertaining show and after hearing the DVD-A recording, I'll have to see the show next time I'm in Vegas.
The DVD-Audio mix is very very clean. If you want to test the base extension of your system this DVD-A will definitly not dissappoint. The surround channels are used generously although, like most DVD-Audio mixes, instruments end up behind you sometimes when they should be focused on the front stage.
In summary, sit back and enjoy the adventure. I sure did. Submitted by didjdude (Bay Area, CA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Surrounded by blue men The blue man group Audio DVD is a great experience. The five speaker system makes the music of from their exotic instruments come alive by separating them and being able to differientiate them. There is no better way to listen to their music, unless is live, than with an Audio DVD. Submitted by a reviewer (Orlando,Fl) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
I've got to see the show again! It's been at least 5 years since I've seen the show. I been waiting for a CD ever since and then I saw the DVD. I immediately ordered it. It sounds great in DD 5.1, making full use of all 6 speakers! Too bad this was only an audio DVD instead of a full audio/video one. There's so much more to the Blue guys than just the music (even though it's great music!). This DVD is for anyone who have seen Blue Man Group. For those who haven't experienced them, treat yourselves and go see them. Hopefully, they'll make a video DVD for the rest of you who can't. I've got to see them again! RCA and the Elvis estate made no bones about their intention on replicating the blockbuster success of the Beatles' The Beatles 1 with their own single-disc collection of number one hits -- hence, the 2002 release of Elvis: 30 #1 Hits. The idea of collecting all the number one hits is simple enough, but there are problems inherent with the concept, not the least of which is that RCA did this once before. Unlike the Beatles, who went through numerous changes in just seven years of recording, Elvis had nearly three times as many years' worth of material and hits to choose from. Also, he hit on a number of different charts -- not just pop, but also R&B, country, and adult contemporary. Furthermore, where almost all of the Beatles' number one hits sampled at least part of their music, there are significant chunks of Elvis' best material -- including the visi

By condensing the sonic explorations of Meddle to actual songs and adding a lush, immaculate production to their trippiest instrumental sections, Pink Floyd inadvertently designed their commercial breakthrough with Dark Side of the Moon. The primary revelation of Dark Side of the Moon is what a little focus does for the band. Roger Waters wrote a series of songs about mundane, everyday details which aren't that impressive by themselves, but when given the sonic backdrop of Floyd's slow, atmospheric soundscapes and carefully placed sound effects, they achieve an emotional resonance. But what gives the album true power is the subtly textured music, which evolves from ponderous, neo-psychedelic art rock to jazz fusion and blues-rock before turning back

Making of "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" Text/Photo Galleries: Photo Gallery Lyrics Biography Catalog Goodbye Yellow Brick Road was where Elton John's personality began to gather more attention than his music, as it topped the American charts for eight straight weeks. In many ways, the double album was a recap of all the styles and sounds that made John a star. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is all over the map, beginning with the prog rock epic "Funeral for a Friend (Love Lies Bleeding)" and immediately careening into the balladry of "Candle in the Wind." For the rest of the album, John leaps between popcraft ("Bennie and the Jets"), ballads ("Goodbye Yellow Brick Road"), hard rock ("Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting"), novelties ("Jamaica Jerk-Off"), Bernie Taupin's literary pretensions ("The Ballad of Danny Bailey"), and everything in between. Though its diversity is impressive, the album doesn't hold together very well. Even so, its individual moments are spectacular and the glitzy, crowd-pleasing showmanship that fuels the album pretty much defines what made Elton John a superstar in the early '70s. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine Generally regarded as Elton John's masterpiece, GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD is a double-album (on one CD) that includes several of his signature songs alongside a sprawling array of lesser-known (but by no means lesser) tunes. The hits included "Bennie And

The full-blown rock opera about a deaf, dumb, and blind boy that launched the band to international superstardom, written almost entirely by Pete Townshend. Audio
$11.10 Personnel: Dave Wittman (guitar, drums); Chris Caffery, Al Pitrelli, Paul O'Neill, Angus Clark (guitar); Anna Phoebe (strings); Jay Coble (trumpet); Luci Butler, Robert Kinkel (keyboards, background vocals); Jon Oliva, Derek Wieland (keyboards); John O. Audio Mixer: Dave Wittman. Arranger: Paul O'Neill. NIGHT CASTLE appears just in time for the big 2009 holiday season but don't be fooled: this isn't a Christmas album, even if it's sonically indistinguishable from Trans-Siberian Orchestra's other seasonal releases, and the fact that it's been dubbed "Capra-esque" certainly brings it within the realm of the season. NIGHT CASTLE brims with all the drama, pomp, and circumstance of Trans-Siberian Orchestra's other records but channeling these traits through a newly created narrative does have the effect of hearing it in a somewhat new light, shifting the focus entirely to the band's attack, not melody. Still, there's not that much new here -- and the coda of seasonal covers, including the first sober version of "Nutrocker" ever cut, doesn't do much to break that spell. But for those already enchanted by the Orchestra, this will continue to enthrall.
| | Paul Gilbert Alligator Farm (2000)
Audio
$11.19 This is a DVD-Audio disc and can only be read by a DVD-Audio compatible DVD player. Guitarist Paul Gilbert continues to refine his peculiar Elvis Costello/Cheap Trick/Mr. Big/Racer X experiment that he introduced on King of Clubs. The odd mixture of styles is centered around his much-heralded guitar technique, which is prevalent throughout the session but rarely overused. His affinity for strong pop songs complete with catchy choruses prevents the session from being just for guitar fanatics. Songs such as the Green Day-influenced "Better Chords" and other pop numbers such as "Individually Twisted" (released as a single) and "Cut, Cut, Cut" demonstrate his ability to pen clever lyrics and adequately serve as a lead vocalist. There is plenty of frenetic fretboard work here, too, with selections such as "Let the Computer Decide" and "Attitude Boy Will Overcome" conjuring up memories of his early Racer X days. "Koto Girl" and "Whole Lotta Sonata" also feature some of the creative and adventurous guitar playing that he has become famous for. While this recording requires a unique taste, there is no mistaking that Gilbert is thoroughly enjoying himself on this energetic session. Of note, this recording was also released in the DVD audio format. ~ Robert Taylor Paul Gilbert, who used to play guitar for pop-metallers Mr. Big and the shredding Racer X, ventures away from the pack with ALLIGATOR FARM. Gilbert's striking, virtuostic guitar work is a treat as he zooms from style to style--catchy pop melodies, thorny post-punk, tastes of metal, and classical music a la Mozart ("Whole Lotta Sonata") are all heard here. The cherry on the sundae is his unexpected reworking of the Spice Girls's "2 Become One." DVD Features: Region 0 Audio: MLP 6-Channel - 96 khz - 24 bit
Former Mr. Big guitarist Paul Gilbert rocks out on his first DVD-Audio release "Alligator Farm." Always with his tongue in cheek, Gilbert's third album features "good fun" up-tempo songs that share his backing band's taste as well as his own--and the 5.1 tracks are simply amazing! Includes a special version of the Spice Girls' "2 Become 1," and a guitar tribute to Mozart, entitled "Whole Lotta Sonata." Songs: Better Chords, Individually Twisted, Cut Cut Cut, Alligator Farm, Attitude Boy Will Overcome, 2 Become 1, Lancelot Link, Rosalinda Told Me, Let the Computer Decide, Koto Girl, Dreamed Victoria, Six Billion People, Ballad of the Last Lions, Whole Lotta Sonata.

Featuring a wide selection of the Searchers' more well-known moments, this 2002 DVD audio collection will be of most interest to those new to the driving quasi-surf sounds of this band from Liverpool, England. Those seeking a more comprehensive look will probably be better off with the 56-track, two-CD 40th Anniversary Collection released by Castle in 2003. [In 2005, The Very Best of the Searchers was released by Silverline in the Dual Disc format with Surround Sound and bonus multimedia content.] ~ Chris True Among its 20 tracks, this Australian compilation contains all 12 of the Searchers' U.K. Top 40 hits and all seven of their U.S. Top 40 hits, which in some cases are not the same songs. For example, the group's debut British single, the chart-topping "Sweets for My Sweet," never charted in America, while their biggest U.S. hit, "Love Potion Number Nine," was not released as a single in the U.K. But they scored in both countries with hits like "Needles and Pins," "Don't Throw Your Love Away," "Some Day We're Gonna Love Again," "When You Walk in the Room," and "What Have They Done to the Rain" in 1964-1965, at first challenging the Beatles for popularity, at least at home, while eventually serving as a bridge from Merseybeat to folk-rock across the Atlantic. (It's hard to listen to the lilting harmonies and chiming guitars without reflecting on their profound influence on the Byrds.) By 1966, they were struggling to chart, probably because they never developed their own songwriting and had to depend on other people's material. But their performances here of P.F. Sloan's "Take Me for What I'm Worth," the Rolling Stones' "Take It or Leave It," and the Five Americans' "Western Union" demonstrate their interpretive abilities. This compilation is as good as any out there, and it may be obtainable domestically as an inexpensive import. ~ William Ruhlmann Featuring a wide selection of the Searchers' more well-known moments, this 2002 DVD audio collection will be of most interest to those new to the driving quasi-surf sounds of this band from Liverpool, England. Those seeking a more comprehensive look will probably be better off with the 56-track, two-CD 40th Anniversary Collection released by Castle in 2003. [In 2005, The Very Best of the Searchers was released by Silverline in the Dual Disc format with Surround Sound and bonus multimedia content.] ~ Chris True Had they not been overshadowed by that other Liverpool band, the Searchers might have been better remembered today -- certainly, they deserve to be. Alas, only those with the sharpest of memories seem to recall the '60s quartet's solid, if brief, string of pop/rock gems, full of glistening 12-string guitars, sweet vocal harmonies, and a classy clash of folky melody and R&B rudiments. There is no dearth of Searchers hits compilations, most offering variations on the same basic repertoire, which originated in the U.K. on the Pye label and was picked up in the U.S. by Kapp. To be sure, most of the band's greatest hits are present here -- at least they seem to be at first glance. "Needles and Pins," the Searchers' debut U.S. hit and perhaps their most memorable -- written by the late Sonny Bono and Jack Nitzsche -- is here in all of its chiming glory, holding up magnificently well decades later. The harmonious "Don't Throw Your Love Away" (originally an Orlons B-side), "Some Day We're Gonna Love Again," and the Jackie DeShannon-penned "When You Walk in the Room" are given their due, as are the early British smashes "Sugar and Spice" and the Drifters cover "Sweets for My Sweet." Rounding it all out nicely are the transplanted folk song "What Have They Done to the Rain," P.F. Sloan's "Take Me for What I'm Worth,"
