More Than the Best by the sensational Viennese groove machine Count Basic brings together the songs that made the group both a smooth jazz radio sensation and a groove jazz powerhouse. The band's smash hit singles "M.L. in the Sunshine," "Joy + Pain," and "On the Move" are among the songs included on this excellent collection of original compositions and incredible covers. Peter Legat wrote all of the compositions except two, offers five previously unavailable tracks, and plays an awesome guitar. Along with his glorious grooves, Legat literally talks to you through his wah-wah tones and swings with an uncontrived spontaneity throughout "Wes Who?" This huge radio hit follows the opener "4 Oceans," sung by the dynamic Kelli Sae in a voice so soulful and harmonic that the listener can't help but be pulled into the experience. Sae has a great vocal range and is an accomplished interpreter, delivering these lyrics with real power and sensitivity. She will floor you with her rendition of "License to Kill," turning in a dynamic performance of the James Bond theme song that is sure to draw major response. Legat's arrangement of this song releases a dynamic, sexy, tension between Sae's lead vocals and the impressionistic melodic patterns of the background vocals and synth sounds. These effects surge forth in Sae's relentless wail that fills the song with fresh soul and other delicacies. Count Basic -- which includes tenor saxophonist Martin Fuss, Willi Langer on bass, and Dirk Erchinger on drums -- is incredible on the five new songs, and More Than the Best is a solid reminder of Peter Legat's profound ability to apply a great variety of musical skills that continue to satisfy and pull Count Basic fans together around the world. ~ Paula Edelstein

| | J J Jackson But It's Alright CD (1967)
More Than The Best songs
$9.95 Soul belter J.J. Jackson is best known for his 1967 smash, "But It's Alright," but he has some fine singles and a couple of excellent albums as well, and 1967's But It's Alright on the Calla label is one of them. Kicking off with the infectious title track, the record alternates between flat-out rockers like "I Dig Girls," "Come See Me (I'm Your Man)" (which was written by Jackson, covered by the Pretty Things, and then reclaimed powerfully here), and "Boogaloo Baby," midtempo ...

| | Wilson Family Band Mercy Road CD (2007)
More Than The Best album
$10.65 Mercy Road is the first all gospel release from The Wilson Family Band. This project features a mixture of original songs and traditional hymns performed in a traditional bluegrass style. Some favorites on this CD are Mercy Road, Count Your Blessings and Walk Me Back In Time. However, they all are well worth listening to. Robert Wilson is a simple man. He believes in God and church, his family and bluegrass music...in that order. These simple values have created a bluegrass band performing at a level that excites audiences and draws people to them through their warmth, their musicality and their freshness. The Wilson Family Band includes father Robert on guitar and vocals, his wife Melissa on mandolin, 17 year old son Clint on banjo and vocals and 11 year old daughter Katie on fiddle and vocals. This band's obvious enthusiasm for their singing and playing as well as the bond they establish with festival audiences is infectious and inspiring. Robert learned to play the guitar and sing with his family in church. He cannot remember a time when music wasn't a part of his life. Robert was a founding member of River Grass Review in ...
