Spike Jones & His City Slickers were hugely popular during most of the '40s, recording frequently for RCA Victor, touring often, and also regularly appearing on the radio playing live. This English CD compilation put together by the Harlequin label collects 26 tracks from radio transcriptions, live radio shows, film soundtracks and elsewhere. Even though this is comedy music, the arrangements were very demanding and required top-notch players who also had a sense of humor. While some of these songs were commercially recorded by Jones' band, many of them were not, and these rare transcriptions and broadcasts are a welcome addition to his discography, while the surface noise is rarely a problem.
