Ike and Tina Turner recorded for many labels for a 15 year period. Aim Records have taken 2 years to assemble what they consider as the most complete Ike and Tina Turner collection available.
Liner Note Author: Jeff Hannusch. For the casual fan, the title says it all. While the record business, being what it is, is often guilty of advertising so falsely that it's a blatant lie, AIM Marketing are always reliable and here remarkably true to their word. This set offers the original versions of every hit single Ike & Tina Turner recorded between 1960 and 1974. There are 22 cuts here, each of them a smash either regionally or nationally, from "River Deep, Mountain High" and their signature version of "Proud Mary" to the Beatles' "Come Together," the early hits like covers of Johnny Otis' "So Fine" and Andre Williams' "Shake a Tail Feather," and originals like "I Wanna Jump" and "We Need an Understanding." About the only criticism that can be made here is that these tracks aren't presented in chronological order, but that's easy to forgive since they make such aesthetic sense in this context. This set is highly recommended for anyone who doesn't already possess all of these cuts. ~ Thom Jurek Overall, the Australian import collection EVERY HIT SINGLE: 1960-1974 delivers what the title promises, a complete overview of Ike and Tina Turner's hit-making career from "A Fool In Love" to "Nutbush City Limits." Like just about every other Ike and Tina Turner compilation, however, EVERY HIT SINGLE: 1960-1974 has one major flaw: ABKCO Records, which controls the Phil Spector catalogue, almost never licenses Ike and Tina Turner's star-crossed 1966 masterpiece "River Deep Mountain High" for this kind of compilation. Therefore, the version heard here is a later re-recording that doesn't skimp on gutbucket R&B power but lacks the cracked art-pop majesty of the Spector-produced original. That unfortunate but seemingly hard-to-avoid lapse aside, this 22-track set is nearly flawless, including not only smashes like "Proud Mary," but a few B-sides and other rarities to boot. There are a ton of compilations covering this era of Tina Turner's career, but EVERY HIT SINGLE: 1960-1974 is the most satisfying.
