GOLD: THE BEST OF SPANDAU BALLET is the perfect introduction to the music of this pioneering British New Romantic outfit. With great concision, it traces the evolution of the band's sound, from their early trend-setting days as dance-crazed, Bowie-indebted synth-mongers ("To Cut a Long Story Short," "The Freeze") to the more visceral, funky tracks from their second album ("Paint Me Down," "Chant No. 1 [I Don't Need This Pressure On]"). GOLD covers the "mature" Spandau's rise to world stardom via the transcendent white-soul ballad "True," and their eventual transformation to straight-ahead mainstream pop merchants ("Only When You Leave," "I'll Fly for You"). The amount of ground Spandau Ballet covered in the space of a few years just shows the rate at which they were working and evolving, and GOLD captures the entire trajectory note for note.
Producers: Tony Swain, Steve Jolley, Spandau Ballet, Richard James Burgess, Trevor Horn.

Gold: The Best Of Spandau Ballet
$6.49 Digitally remastered using 20-bit technology by George Marino (1998, Sterling Sound, New York, New York).
Bon Jovi's 1984 debut not only became a blueprint for the band's multi-platinum releases of later years, but a definitive work for an entire genre. Though scores of short-lived pop-metal bands rocketed to popularity on the success of this release, the time-weathered BON JOVI continues to stand out from the pack.
"Runaway," with its infectious hook and keyboard work from E-Streeter Roy Bittan, was discovered by a New York DJ and gave the band some early exposure. "She Don't Know Me" is a catchy mid-tempo rocker. "Shot Through the Heart" turns the hard-rocking pulse up a few notches, ...

Gold: The Best Of Spandau Ballet
$7.69 Digitally remastered using 20-bit technology by George Marino (1998, Sterling Sound, New York, New York).
From the first mega-chorus shout of the album-opening "In and Out of Love," it's obvious that 7800 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT marks an evolution from Bon Jovi's debut. The image got bigger and so did the sound. The album went gold, and a year later the band shot to the ...

Digitally remastered using 20-bit technology by George Marino (1998, Sterling Sound, New York, New York).
After selling more than 12 million copies of SLIPPERY WHEN WET (and becoming the light-metal champions of the decade), Bon Jovi took its "Wanted Dead Or Alive" rock n' roll cowboy theme to the next level on NEW JERSEY. The album was produced by Bruce Fairbairn and engineered by Bob Rock-two masters when it comes to maximizing a band's sound. ...

$51.35 Disc 4 is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.
As ornate as the sonic tapestries she weaves, Enya's first ever box set is a four-disc marvel of gold and velvet that culls 51 tracks from her first five albums, including B-sides. All of the obvious cuts are here, from her breakthrough single "Orinoco Flow" to "May It Be" from the Lord of the Rings soundtrack. The 48-page booklet is bursting at the seams with photographs, illustrations, and track-by-track commentary from lyricist Roma Ryan. The enhanced fourth disc includes a video performance of "Oíche Chiúin (Silent Night)" from a 1996 BBC ...
| | Soak Your Shoes In Red Wine & Strike The Angels Dumb CD (2003)
Gold: The Best Of Spandau Ballet
$10.85 Shoegaze never died. It was just in a backwards, reverb-induced coma. Grand Theft Autumn is a label (one of quite a few) that has devoted itself to breaking the coma and bringing shoegaze into the 2000s. Its label and friends' sampler from 2003, Soak Your Shoes in Red Wine and Strike the Angels Dumb gets right to the point with a cover of "Only Shallow" (by My Bloody Valentine, of course) as done by Shiner. It is faithful as can be; the only clue that it was produced by an American (Midwestern) band is the earnest, almost emo, vocals. The rest of the disc reaches some pretty sublime highs, and never is anything ...
