After his second marriage hits the skids, novelist John Henderson tries to divine the source of his problems with women by moving home and getting to know his mother all over again. The only problem is, she doesn't really want him there. As John tries to figure out why, as he puts it, she hates him, he also has to contend with his jealous younger brother, who can't stand to see him threatening his position as mama's boy. MOTHER is a bittersweet comedy from Albert Brooks, the master of urbane wit. Debbie Reynolds makes her first film appearance in years as Henderson's maddening but loving mother. Listen for the new lyrics to the Simon and Garfunkel song "Mrs. Robinson" in the film, penned by Brooks and coscreenwriter Monica Johnson. The film marks Debbie's Reynold's first starring role in a film in almost 30 years. She followed it up with a role in the Kevin Kline coming-out comedy IN AND OUT the following year.
Lisa Kudrow has a hilarious turn as Henderson's first disastrous date after his divorce.
Watch for short-lived MELROSE PLACE cast member Vanessa Williams as Kudrow's roommate.

In this American remake of the 1977 French farce "Pardon Mon Affaire," Teddy Pierce (Gene Wilder) is a happily married man who gets into hot water when he becomes attracted to a beautiful model (Kelly Le Brock). He begins to pursue the "woman in red" as his married buddies -- who are each unfaithful to their own wives -- cheer him on. Teddy's attempts to woo the model without his family finding out causes some comic confusion -- and making the situation even more chaotic is a female coworker who is attracted to Teddy and begins to pursue him. Also featured is a top-of-the-charts soundtrack performed by Stevie Wonder and Dionne Warwick, including the Academy Award-winning song, "I Just Called To Say I Love You."

The Taiwanese romantic comedy THE PERSONALS follows the often hilarious, sometimes sad meetings that a pretty young woman has with the men who respond to the ad that she placed in the personals section of the newspaper. Du Jiazhen (Rene Liu), the woman, is a young eye doctor on a mission to find a husband. After spontaneously putting an ad in the paper, she begins to meet with interested men regularly, and what began as an impromptu action quickly changes into an obsession. Returning day after day to the same teahouse, she is a quiet, thoughtful observer, letting the men tell all before her. These interactions are broken up by Du's nightly calls to the answering machine of her ex-lover, during which she communicates her complex feelings and doubts. She continues to meet man after man until finally, a shocking discovery changes everything.
Director Chen Kuo-fu, a noted film critic in Taiwan, adds intelligence and depth to a story that could have been shallow and conventional. Creating a lush sense of setting and mood, he manages to give a voice to an entire culture through the emotional journey of one woman. It is Rene Liu's remarkably layered performance as the quietly tortured yet simultaneously strong protagonist that resonates long after the film is over.

Based on the Italian film L'ULTIMO BACIO and directed by Tony Goldwyn (A WALK ON THE MOON), THE LAST KISS is a film about growing pains and choices. Nearing his 30th birthday, marriage-phobic Michael (Zach Braff) loves his live-in girlfriend Jenna (Jacinda Barrett), but worries that there are no surprises left in his life. Enter Kim (Rachel Bilson), a vibrant college student Michael meets at a wedding. Soon, he finds himself treading in dangerous territory; he loves Jenna, but is intrigued by Kim and attracted to both her and to the possibilities that a new relationship offers. With Kim, Michael not only feels 10 years younger, but also as if anything is possible. Now, he has to decide if pursuing Kim is worth the risk of losing Jenna, and if the life he has planned with Jenna is in fact the life he really wants.
Michael, meanwhile, is not the only one experiencing growing pains; his friends have their own relationship issues. Izzy (Michael Weston) is battling heartbreak after being dumped by his longtime girlfriend. Chris (Casey Affleck) and his wife already have a rocky relationship, and are feeling the stress of having their first baby. Kenny (Eric Christian Olsen) is the only one without relationship issues--but that's only because he is determined to remain a single ladies' man. Then there are Jenna's parents, Anna (Blythe Danner) and Stephen (Tom Wilkinson), who are facing their own issues after 30 years of marriage. THE LAST KISS looks at relationships from all angles, and shies away from finger-pointing and laying blame. Instead, it acknowledges that the world is full of temptation, and that growing up is serious business. Braff does a nice job of conveying Michael's confusion without asking for sympathy.
