Led by frontman Rick Sims, whose appearance and antics suggest a ribald hybrid of carnival barker and evangelical preacher, the Gaza Strippers have proven to be as equally dedicated and hardworking as Sims previous outfit, the Didjits, amassing a bulk of material in their first few years alone. Electric Bible -- the band's third foray into the revivalist rock idiom -- makes a six-song, European-only EP available to U.S. listeners for the first time, reissued with four additional tracks, including a wired-to-the-gills version of Elvis Costello's "Lipstick Vogue." Having also served as a mercenary with the Supersuckers in 1995 on The Sacrilicious Sounds Of, Sims knows his way around the guitar, the studio, and the stage. Electric Bible combines the catchy power pop of Cheap Trick with the untamed velocity and guitar gymnastics of latter-day punk rock & roll. ~ Patrick Kennedy

Electric Bible: The New Testament music CDs
$10.19 The debut album from Wino's new band channels all the power and thunder of Wino's earlier groups - Spirit Caravan, St. Vitus, The Obsessed - and updates their trademark heaviness with a new dose of aggression.
The voice -- though somewhat flat and strained-sounding -- is instantly recognizable. The guitar playing -- whether driving forceful, down-tuned power chords, or peeling off inventive and dazzling solos, is a virtual monument to American underground metal. Both are in possession of Scott Weinrich, otherwise known as the ubiquitous Wino -- the voice and guitar standing front and center of past indie metal legends like Saint Vitus and The Obsessed, and, more recently, ...

Electric Bible: The New Testament CD music
$15.09 Though Opeth have officially signed with Roadrunner, this double-live disc was released by former label Peaceville. This is welcome, because the band's first live offering, the DVD-only Lamentations: Live at Shepherd's Bush, was not able to focus on the first four recordings due to contractual problems. Apparently, this is worked out here, because all of the band's recordings are represented. That said, the Roundhouse Tapes, recorded at Camden Roundhouse, London, U.K., on November 9, 2006, is a double-disc set that captures this mighty band at their very best. The tour that Opeth undertook in support of Ghost Reveries was 18 months long; it began in June of 2005, and ended December 2006. They played 210 shows during that time. Given that this gig was near the end of the tour, it showcases the band at the zenith of their live powers. They run through not ...
