Although Madhops released A New Brand of Hurt in 2000, it consisted of the band's previous endeavor, 1999's Suck the Sewer EP, as well as four brand-new tracks which were meant to show the band's growth as musicians as they distanced themselves from the rap/metal scene. This new direction found Madhops evolving into a competent hard rock band, as songs such as "Swallow" and "Perfect" blended Sevendust's emotive soul-searching with Snot's punk rock tenacity quite well. In fact, this new material effectively overshadowed the group's older songs, making tracks such as "The Generation Killer" seem immature and amateurish in comparison. Dan Morteo's powerful vocals showed unprecedented promise for this young band, and are solid hard rock tracks that could hold their own with alternative metal's royalty. Unfortunately, Madhops' desire to continually reinvent itself prevented the group from ever ascending to the national level, and the band lost steam in 2001, never again rising to the minor peaks they achieved with this release. Regardless, A New Brand of Hurt is one of the independent scene's most impressive feats and a highlight of the rap/metal-meets-alt-rock phase that culminated in 2000. ~ Jason D. Taylor

New Brand Of Hurt Music Review

Customer New Brand Of Hurt Reviews

Average Rating: (3 out of 5 stars) 3 stars

3 stars Sort of Bland
Not too bad, but a little bland. I like when each song has it's own identity. After listening to the samples, all I could say is "Breathe" is the slow one. Everything else sounded a little similar, and needed a hook. Would have been a 2 Star, but Morteo sings better than me (but the screams were not good), so I will give a 3 Star. The band is broken up, so no constructive criticism needed.

On 2009's WELCOME TO THE MASQUERADE, the trio that put the "rawk" in rawkfest gives no hint of the rap element that once defined their sound, fueling the evidence that the guys from Toronto have fully morphed into one of the decade's powerhouse modern rock outfits. No longer living in a world dominated by rapcore and nu metal groups that once drew their comparisons (Limp Bizkit, Korn), Thousand Foot Krutch have moved on, climbing new heights of pure rock which, it would seem, the band ...
Escape
Enrique Iglesias Escape CD  (2001)

New Brand Of Hurt music CDs
CD $12.55  4.4 stars Top 500 Audio Samples
Though Latino superstar Enrique Inglesias is the son of the celebrated Spanish romantic singer Julio Iglesias, his roots as displayed here are set firmly in '80s pop. From the big-beat chorus of "Escape," through the ersatz-tribal chorus and fuzz guitar of "Don't Turn off the Lights," to the pulsating throb of "Maybe," ESCAPE is an '80s lovefest set to a millennial beat. When he's not busy paying homage to the decade of big hair, however, Iglesias displays his mastery of the family specialty, the love ballad, in such cuts as "Hero," where the trademark hereditary Iglesias vocal shimmer is very much in evidence, and the Latin-tinged "I Will Survive," which combines the aforementioned balladic style with some quintessential Eurodisco flourishes. With a trio of Spanish-language remixes rounding off the album, ESCAPE consolidates Enrique Iglesias's already considerable reputation as international balladeer and pop performer par excellence. Recorded at The Hit Factory Criteria, Circle House, South Point, Miami, Florida; ...

Nicely packaged in a slipcase, the three albums which appear in their entirety are FREAK OUT!, ABSOLUTELY FREE, and WE'RE ONLY IN IT FOR THE MONEY. Released during 1966-1968, ...

Loggins & Messina Best: Loggins & Messina - Sittin' In Again CD  (2005)

New Brand Of Hurt album
CD $6.39  4.4 stars Top 500 Audio Samples
Hard to believe, but it's been nearly 30 years since Loggins & Messina have had their five albums compiled into a greatest-hits collection. The first, Best of Friends, appeared in 1976, just after the partnership went its separate ways, and this second set, The Best: Sittin' in Again, appeared in the summer of 2005 to coincide with a reunion tour. On the back cover of the CD, Messina is quoted as saying that "this album is about more than hits," with Loggins elaborating that he wants "this new retrospective to accurately depict who Loggins & Messina was." To that end, Sittin' in Again does indeed overlook some hits, including "My Music" and "Thinking of You" -- two Top 20 hits that appeared on Best of Friends -- plus the 1975 "Growin'," one of their last charting hits; similarly, the winding full-length LP version of "Angry Eyes" is here instead of the single edit. While the absent hits are indeed missed, the majority of the duo's biggest songs are indeed here -- ...
