(3 Customer Reviews)
Digitally remastered by Robert Vosgien (2000 Capitol Mastering).
The Fabulous Thunderbirds' second album continues in the tough modern blues style of their debut, albeit with a little more edge to the production. Highlights include the Tex-Mex flavored workout "You Ain't Nothin' But Fine," the vaguely New Wave-ish imaginary dance hit "The Crawl," and a terrific live version of Slim Harpo's "Scratch My Back."
Several blistering instrumentals are also featured, including "Extra Jimmies" (a stop-time shuffle workout for guitarist Jimmy Vaughan), and "Last Call For Alcohol" (a showcase for leader Kim Wilson's Little Walter harmonica work). Don't miss the very funny final bonus track, in which bassist Frank Ferguson turns in his only vocal performance by impersonating the announcer on a Mexican radio station.

What's The Word album
$13.05 Minimally produced (nary an overdub to be heard), the Fabulous Thunderbirds' first album showcases their tough, modern approach to the blues, with an energy and integrity that also appealed to fans of the nascent post punk/new wave bands of the day. Highlights include a faithfully swampy cover of Slim Harpo's "Scratch My Back."
Leader Kim Wilson's "Rocket Pocket" is a harmonica showcase a la Little Walter, while "Rich Woman" appropriates the riff from Bo Diddley's "Diddley Daddy" (the same one the Stones borrowed for "19th Nervous Breakdown"). The bonus track "Things I Forgot to Do" is a nice slow New Orleans style ballad, in which the T-Birds are joined by the horns from Roomful Of Blues.
Although there was no Fabulous Thunderbirds album by the name of Girls Go Wild prior to this 2000 release, this is actually a repackaged version of their self-titled 1979 debut. It has all of the songs from The Fabulous Thunderbirds, in the same sequence, but adds three bonus tracks, as well as liner notes by producer Denny Bruce. Why the title change? Well, because the lettering "Girls Go Wild" was so prominent on the cover, it became unofficially known as their "Girls Go Wild" album, ...

| | VH1 Presents The Corrs Live In Dublin CD (2002)
What's The Word music CDs
$6.39 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's "Summer Wine."
Somewhat more mysteriously, Rolling Stone Ron Wood also turns up on what sounds ...
| | Mike Bloomfield Super Session CD (1968) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
What's The Word songs
$6.75 A surprise best-seller when it was first released, this mostly improvised pairing of singer/keyboardist/producer Al Kooper with two major guitar heroes of the day sounds fascinating all these years later precisely because of the distance of time--nobody makes records like this any more. The material runs the gamut from folk pop (covers of Donovan and Dylan), to blues ("Albert's Shuffle," "You Don't Love Me"), to heady jams ("His Holy Modal Majesty"), to big-band jazz ("Harvey's Tune").
All the tunes make effective templates for the kind off-the-cuff music-making that in less capable hands might have resulted in simple noodling. In fact, although Bloomfield and Stills don't play together on any of the cuts (Bloomfield played on one side of the original LP, Stills on the other), all three principals get off lots of good licks and producer Kooper has some interesting tricks up his sleeve, as in the over-the-top phasing he lavishes on "You Don't Love Me." The only real disappointment here is that Stills, a far better singer than Kooper, never opens his mouth.
