Principally recorded live at the Tropicana Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada from March 30-April 1, 1970. Originally released on Liberty (11006). Includes liner notes by Paul Werth.
The inclusion of the Paul Simon title cut (which is pretty catchy) and an 11-minute, four-song "Midnight Cowboy Medley" may make one think that this is a fairly commercial Buddy Rich big-band disc. But the arrangements are by Bill Holman, Don Piestrup and Roger Neumann; the other songs are originals by the trio, and among the soloists are altoists Richie Cole and Jim Mosher, trombonist Rick Stepton, trumpeter George Zonce and tenorman Pat Labarbara. In other words, the music on this album is on a higher level than one might think. Recorded live at the Tropicana in Las Vegas, this disc is recommended just to hear Buddy Rich drive the ensembles. ~ Scott Yanow

Keep The Customers Satisfied Music Buddy Rich Keep The Customers Satisfied Songs Keep The Customers Satisfied Music Review Average Rating: (4.4 out of 5 stars) Can't believe I found it! I can't believe that I actually found this album on CD. I used to listen to "Keep the Customer Satisfied" back in the 70's when I was in Junior High. I played it so much that I wore out the album. Glad to find the CD and enjoy taking the trip down memory lane. Submitted by a reviewer (Florida) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Great Music and solos by the BR Big Band Richie Cole and Pat LaBarbera shine on this "Live" recording of Rich's Big Band.
The centerpiece has to be Don Menza's "Groovin' Hard" which is probably one of the most famous high school, college and professional big band numbers for the last 30 years; with the signature sax soli.
The title track "Keep The Customer Satisfied" has some exciting soloists in Richie Cole, Rick Stepton and an alto exchange with Cole and Jimmy Mosher before the powerhouse brass section takes it out to a shouting conclusion. An exciting showpiece.
"Celebration" is indeed a celebration for soloists Cole, LaBarbera and trumpeter George Zonce. A very happy, upbeat number.
Don Englert lends his soprano sax to "Juicer Is Wild." With contributions by Pat Labarbera, George Zonce, and Mickey McLain.
"Midnight Cowboy Medley" wails with Richie Cole's biting alto solo, Rick Stepton's swinging trombone and the electric piano of Mickey Mclain.
Great selections from arrangers Menza, Holman, Piestrup Clausen and others.

Buddy is Smokin' This album is one Buddy's best. As a drummer , Buddy is one of my Idols. Groovin hard is by far one of the best instrumentals ever recorded. This album has influenced me tremendosly. Submitted by will_cratch (Washington, NC , USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Par Excellence! This recording is right on the money, track after track. The band is tight, Buddy is cranking, and the audience interplay is there. Great sound quality, solid arrangements, and not one but two cuts of Groovin' Hard make this CD a winner. Submitted by AE (New Jersey) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
a phenomenally good disc! I own most of Buddy's CDs, and along with "Big Swing Face", this disc has it all -- good tunes, sparkling performances and very good sound. Get both of these CDs and you'll never regret it. The others are good, too, but these two are world-beaters. Submitted by a reviewer (Lincoln NE, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
