| | Children Of Bodom Follow The Reaper CD Children Of Bodom Discography of CDs
FOLLOW THE REAPER is the third studio album from Finnish heavy-metal band Children of Bodom, issued in 2000. Tracks include "Bodom After Midnight", "Children of Decadence", and the title cut.
Japanese edition features the bonus tracks "Shot in the Dark" and "Hellion".
This operatically menacing Finland outfit's third record is a showcase for frontman Alexi Laiho's prog-meets-death-metal songwriting imagination and the near-euphoric, omnipresent keyboards of Janne Warman. Still navigating their chosen terrain, Bodom spreads its wings wide on tracks like "Bodom At Midnight," which toggle between familiarly punishing riffs and orchestrated flourishes which border on the theatricality of The Trans-Siberian Orchestra. But when they forge a middle ground on the cathedral-goth synth-stomp of "Everytime I Die," Children begin to hint at their soon-to-come maturation.
Japanese version of the Scandinavian black metal act's third album. Includes two bonus tracks 'Shot In The Dark' and 'Hellion'. Standard jewelcase. 2000 release.
Recorded between August and September 2000.
Children Of Bodom: Alexi Laiho (vocals, guitar); Alexander Kuoppala (guitar); Janne Warman (keyboards); Henkka T. Blacksmith (5-string bass); Jaska Raatikainen (drums).
CMJ (2/12/01, p.29) - "...REAPER's grand, up-tempo death metal is textures with classical elements. There's still plenty of In Flames/Iron Maiden riffs and speed - it's just enmeshed in the storm an splash of synthesizers..." Follow The Reaper Review

The 1990s and the 21st century have seen plenty of women singing loud, heavy, forceful, in-your-face rock, but they tend to be concentrated in certain areas of rock. The harder side of alternative rock has been very female-friendly (Lunachicks, Courtney Love, 7 Year Bitch, Babes in Toyland, Soraia, L7, Bikini Kill, among countless others), and goth metal is famous for its abundance of female vocalists. But thrash metal, like death metal, black metal, and metalcore, has remained very male-dominated. Sabina Classen, Holy Moses' lead singer since the early '80s, is a rare example of a female thrash vocalist. Classen's gruff, abrasive, guttural vocals have long thrived on harshness, and that harshness is right at home on Agony of Death. This 2008 release favors a take-no-prisoners approach to thrash; there is some melodic and harmonic nuance at times, but for the most part, Holy Moses thrive on head-kicking metal/punk brutality delivered at breakneck speed. While Agony of Death isn't full-fledged death metal, Classen's vocals do have a certain amount of death metal appeal and remind listeners that death metal and black metal would not have come about were it not ...
| | The Very Best Of Enya CDs (2009) With DVD
Follow The Reaper songs
$21.00 Comprised of 18 tracks culled from the singer/composer's first three decades, The Very Best of Enya was pieced together by the artist herself, along with longtime collaborators Nicky and Roma Ryan. Luckily, the trio seems enamored by most of the same songs that the general public is, resulting in one of those rare "greatest-hits" collections that goes deep without depriving the listener of the essentials. With tunes like "Orinoco Flow," "Caribbean Blue," and "Book of Days" in the pot and out of the way, it's easier to appreciate hidden gems like "Cursum Perficio," "Boadicea," "Trains and Winter Rains," and "Anywhere Is." Also notable is the inclusion of "May It Be" and a previously unreleased version of "Aníron (I Desire)," both of which originally appeared on the soundtrack for the first chapter of Peter Jackson's beloved Lord of the Rings trilogy. ~ James Christopher Monger

| | Slayer World Painted Blood CDs (2009) With DVD; Deluxe Edition; Digipak
Follow The Reaper album
$19.79 Of the "big four" original thrash bands (the other three being Metallica, Anthrax, and Megadeth), Slayer was the least compromising and most consistent. As such, 2009's WORLD PAINTED BLOOD recalled more than the title of Slayer's 1986 masterpiece REIGN IN BLOOD; it shared the earlier album's ferocious aggression and trademark speed metal-meets-hardcore sound. Throughout, the sound is lean and mean, with bassist/vocalist Tom Araya's vocals mixed relatively dry and upfront, giving the album a bracing, fist-to-the-face force. ...

Follow The Reaper music CDs
$14.35 Sepalot is a Munich-based DJ and producer whose career had taken him on tours around the world and settled him into an established hometown club residency before he released Red Handed, his debut full-length, in 2008. This is the sound of IOUs being cashed: the featured rappers and singers are pretty much a who's who of the European hip-hop and electro scene, including Frank Nitty, OlivierDaySoul, Saigon, and Miss Platnum. Most of the vocalists bring standard-issue fare to the proceedings -- lots of rapping about how hard and rich the rapper is, lots of sweet breathy women singing about how sweet and breathy they are. What keeps things seriously interesting is the musical range of Sepalot himself: "She Likes Me" is built on a great swinging rhythm, over which are laid multiple vocal layers and some nicely schmaltzy horns; "Go Get It" (featuring LADI6) and "Liquid Embrace" (featuring Esther) are both great straight-up R&B songs (the former flirting ...
