Women of Brewster Place review Product Description
Based on Gloria Naylor's novel, THE WOMEN OF BREWSTER PLACE is the rare made-for-tv feature that provides numerous deeply drawn and affecting characters and entertains. Women of Brewster Place movie Aided immeasurably by star turns from Oprah, Cicely Tyson, and, of course, Jackee, director Donna Deitch's intensely moving film is nothing less than a resounding success. Following the lives of seven women who live in a bleak tenement and struggle to rise above their surroundings, THE WOMEN OF BREWSTER PLACE succeeds both as an important reminder of the difficulties of being black and poor in America, and as a heartfelt and entertaining story about human determination in the face of adversity.

Women of Brewster Place film Excellent film 5/5 hate the fact that it was cut in half I remember scenes that were cut out like Etta & Mattie talking about how two girls can love each other, Theresa going off on Miss Sophia, Lorraine helping a child that scraped their knee, and other scenes.

||GREAT BUT NOT WHAT I WANTED|
I have always loved this movie, however I don’t know it it was just not time conducive to a DVD or someone was just being cheap. Because they cut out some of my favorite scene….

||Excellent Portrait of Poor, Female, Black, and Enslaved|
The movie mirrors the book in terms of dialogue, but not in terms of concept. However, it does pose a sense of familiarity of those women, who have been oppressed, more so by their own actions, rather than their surroundings.
