Closed Captioned; Additional Footage; Soundtrack English; Director's Comments; Dolby Digital 5.1 Re; Behind The Scenes; DTS Sound Years ago, priests exorcised a demon out of young Maya Larkin (Winona Ryder). Now she uses her unusual sensitivity to the same demons who once came after her to help the priests in other exorcisms. In one such case, a serial killer named Henry Birdson (John Diehl) claims to know the name of a man who will soon be possessed by Satan, beginning a reign of evil over the world. Maya discovers that the man in question is Peter Kelson (Ben Chaplin), an author of true-crime books who has both wealth and fame but no religious faith. At first Peter is skeptical, but a series of strange and mysterious clues indicates that he might indeed be the victim of a massive satanic conspiracy. Maya and Peter must work together to learn how to reverse what has already begun before time runs out. A haunting and creepy religious horror movie in the tradition of ROSEMARY'S BABY and THE EXORCIST, LOST SOULS features shocking, disturbing imagery and a deeply rooted sense of human mortality. Theatrical release: October 13, 2000.
Partially filmed on location in New York City.
LOST SOULS is the directorial debut of Janusz Kaminski, the Polish-born cinematographer and winner of two Academy Awards for SCHINDLER'S LIST and SAVING PRIVATE RYAN.
LOST SOULS was originally scheduled for release in autumn 1999 but was held for a year because of a number of other similar horror movies out at that time.
Meg Ryan and her production company, Prufrock Pictures, produced LOST SOULS, originally intending for Ryan to be the star. After appearing in the similar CITY OF ANGELS she passed the role to Winona Ryder.
To prepare for the film, the directors and producers interviewed several Roman Catholic priests with experience in exorcism, and actor Victor Slezak, who plays a priest in the film, was allowed to attend an actual exorcism ritual.
Actor John Hurt, who also plays a priest, is in real life the son of a clergyman.
The film LOST SOULS is not based on the novel of the same title by Poppy Z. Brite. Lost Souls Quotes/Excerpts: "At his exorcism, Henry Birdson boasted that Satan is about to take over the body of a man. You are that man, Peter."--Maya Larkin (Winona Ryder) to Peter Kelson (Ben Chaplin)
"I'm going in with you."--Dr. Leslie Allen to the priests about to perform an exorcism "You wouldn't last five minutes."--Larkin
"It's going to happen at the exact time of your birth."--Larkin on Kelson's impending possession by Satan
"My birthday's tomorrow."--Kelson Lost Souls Reviews: "...[A] solid cast....Kaminski has created a dark destabilized universe that was apparently inspired by the paintings of Francis Bacon..."

$7.75 In the tradition of such genre parodies as AIRPLANE!, THE NAKED GUN, and SPACEBALLS, Keenen Ivory Wayans takes on the teen horror flick with SCARY MOVIE, a campy, riotous send-up of everything from the SCREAM and HALLOWEEN franchises to I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER, CARRIE, and THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT. In a small town, a copycat is reenacting the SCREAM murders, and local reporter Gail Hailstorm will do just about anything to get the story. The six high school students who ran over a man on a sharp curve the year before think the killer is out for revenge, but sweet and innocent Cindy Campbell believes that the madman might just lurk a lot closer to home.
