| | Dave Hole Live One CD (2003)
Live At Rainbow Orchards CD music
$15.45 While subtlety isn't exactly his strong suit -- especially live -- it's also not what Dave Hole fans expect out of their Australian slide guitar slinger. The word "ferocious" best describes his over-the-fret, over-the-top technique, and what was merely intense on his studio albums gets kicked up a few notches in concert. Like George Thorogood, Hound Dog Taylor, or Rory Gallagher (whose vocal phrasing is also an influence), he's nailed his niche, best described as explosive Elmore James. Hole happily plays to his strengths without pushing the boundaries past where his fans comfortably expect. In other words, if you're already hooked through any of his six previous studio discs, you'll want to own this inflammatory live set. Even on a slow blues like "Short Fuse Blues," Hole cranks out squealing, screeching sounds with machine gun velocity. Covers of Willie Dixon's "Every Girl I See," "Bullfrog Blues," (a longtime Gallagher concert favorite) and a nearly seven-minute "Purple Haze" provide familiar ...
| | Walter Trout Relentless CD (2003)
Live At Rainbow Orchards music CDs
$12.89 Another in a series of undiluted blues-rock offerings from guitarist Walter Trout, Relentless, his 11th disc since 1990, doesn't offer any surprises. Released in conjunction with a DVD, the album was recorded live in the Netherlands club The Paradiso on a single day with little post-production sweetening ...

| | Ford Blues Band Butterfield/Bloomfield Concert CD (2006)
Live At Rainbow Orchards CD music
$13.79 Even though the Ford Blues Band has never had a problem putting across mediocre material, songwriting is not one of the outfit's strong points. With successful studio albums covering both Michael Bloomfield and his old boss Paul Butterfield already in Ford Blues Band's catalog, the group plays to its strengths with a live recording, cherrypicking the best songs from both and adding the raw energy that live concerts typically generate. The result is a crackling disc that is not surprisingly a showcase for guitarists Robben Ford, Chris Cain and Volker Strifler as well as harmonica ace Andy Just. Despite liner notes that frustratingly ...

Live At Rainbow Orchards songs
$12.89 BLUES PIANO ORGY Contains several previously unreleased tracks.
Thanks in part to the luridly alluring title and the enthusiastically informative liner notes by Bob Koester, this solid collection was many a young musician's introduction to the men who pioneered blues piano in the first half of the 20th century. Roosevelt Sykes is the best represented artist here, and his leering vocals are hard to resist: After hearing the ribald metaphor of "Dresser Drawers," you'll never view furniture quite the same way again. His "Kickin' Motor Scooter" is truly a marvel of smiling euphemism, with the song devoted to boasts of how he's "A dangerous motor scooter...A tricky motor scooter!" Other artists, while not always as inventive lyrically, show a wide range of piano styles, from the bouncing ...

Live At Rainbow Orchards music CDs
$7.95 LA PERFECTA II was nominated for the 2003 Latin Grammy for Best Latin Jazz Album.
Innovative Latin jazz pianist Eddie Palmieri returns to the music of his classic '60s ensemble La Perfecta on La Perfecta II. After disbanding La Perfecta in 1968 due to financial difficulties and later the death of trombonist/partner Barry Rogers in 1991, Palmieri vowed to never again perform the music ...

| | Communique Poison Arrows CD (2004)
Live At Rainbow Orchards album
$10.09 Communiqué's Poison Arrows is a classy production. From the Hallmark-quality photograph of a pretty flower on the cover to the group's natty attire on the back cover to the crystal-clean production to the restrained playing and simple but catchy songwriting, everything about this disc screams Major Label. That the disc is on Lookout! is a bit of a shock. That Lookout! would want their own carbon copy of the New Pornographers is not such a shock, since that band probably makes some decent money for Matador. They get radio ...
