Shamen Collection album
$11.18 Last time around, Shakira touched upon so many styles she couldn't be contained on one album, splitting Oral Fixation in two. This time, she focuses on one sound only: a pulsating electro-disco that crosses all boundaries and welcomes all nationalities. Such concentration behooves Shakira, freeing her to release her inner She Wolf, a wild wacko who's as coo coo as she is carnal. And for as sexy as Shakira is -- crucially, her music is sexy too -- what really gives She Wolf its bite is her inspired nuttiness, how she laments that Matt Damon's not meant for her, and wishes her ex-lover and his new girl a horrible vacation where the room smells and the toilet doesn't flush. "Darling, it is no joke, this is lycanthropy," she sings on the title track with no small trace of humor, and this blend of cheerful weirdness and sick beats -- often supplied by the Neptunes, delivering tough, sensual rhythms in a way they haven't in a long time, but also John Hill and Wyclef Jean ...

| | Gebhard Ullmann Essencia CD (2001) Import
Shamen Collection music CDs
$13.25 Gebhard Ullman's many projects have made him a hard man to pigeonhole. While he sometimes prefers combinations of instruments just off the beaten track (as on his Clarinet Trio recording), this one uses the conventional grouping of reeds, piano, and string bass with uncommonly delightful results. Perhaps not unexpectedly, Ullman transforms the potentially ordinary into something just a little bit different. To be sure, most of the pieces are freely improvised, and there is little sense of anything definitive ...
| | Inertia Black Ice Impact CD (2004)
Shamen Collection songs
$15.19 Inertia are back with what is probably their finest album to date. The trio of Reza Udhin, Alexys B & Andrew Trail have really gelled on this latest offering which continues where "Advanced Revelation" left off, continually advancing & refining the band's signature EBM sound, be it the pacey offerings such as "Slow Motion", "Blank Stare", "Hypno-Suck" which sees Reza & Alexys duetting to good effect, almost like an EBM Peters & Lee (er, maybe not, on second thoughts!!) & the ultra-catchy, surefire dancefloor killer "Hot Hot Hot" (which is another cover, I think) or the slower "Hold Your Soul" where Alexys' vocals glide effortlessly over acidic synths & powerful rhythmic cascades which add an effective contrast. As a result of this & the absence of instrumental interludes (which sometimes seemed rather 'bitty' in any case) this comes across as a more 'complete' album but where Inertia are really hitting the mark now is in their knack for combining their trademark hard-hitting EBM signature with increasingly infectious tunes. This is again very much the case here & proves to be an important part of the band's appeal throughout the album. Furthermore, they're now incorporating a wider range of styles into their music, such as the Middle-Eastern influences that make their mark during the slow & powerfully intense "Faith On Fire" & Alexys' vocal line on "Seven Sin VII" which betray the band's 60s rock & roll influences & work well in this setting. Her most famous contribution to Inertia's recent gigs is, of course, the singalong Bollywood fave "Shakalaka Baby" which is duly included here before "Violate" ends the album with another catchy EBM dose.No doubt about it, Inertia really are improving with each new release so don't miss out.- Carl Jenkinson (Hard Wired Magazine)BIOGRAPHY1992INERTIA is formed by Reza Udhin. The project goes through a number of different name changes until finally settling on Inertia.1993Inertia release their first demo tape and start gigging at London and UK venues. The band also make several appearances at the famous Marquee Club in London. Where they become a firm favourite of the audience.1994 Reza Udhin separates from band members, and takes on Inertia as a solo project. He starts work on a new 6 track demo. He recruits two new live members, Eddie Tempest on ...

$18.95 where is the american Bjork? has our society become so increasingly homogenized as to all but eliminate an environment for unique artistic musical creation? arlah answers this question with a resounding "no! art in music is not lost!"and the first place she starts: turning the ubiquitous guitar/bass/drum band on it's head. what instruments are more intrinsically compelling to the human spirit yet entirely absent from today's musical scene than violins, violas, and cellos? arlah brings them back into the foreground, having a string quartet as her band and an electronic musician to fill in the rest.her aim: to move people, to connect with them. to electrically charge a room with emotion and passion and those ...
