Unique among even the most cutting-edge standup comics of the '60s, Bob Newhart entertained his audiences not with snappy patter and jokes, but with long monologues in which his voice represented one side of a conversation, the other side left to the listener's imagination. This idiosyncratic format proved endlessly adaptable, as Newhart spun seemingly endless scenarios from it. Before he became a beloved TV star with the Bob Newhart Show, he released several popular comedy albums, from which the best moments have been culled for inclusion on this definitive two-disc compilation. Whether he's advising Abraham Lincoln, confronting King Kong, or getting blitzed at a retirement party (among other comedic situations to be found here), Newhart employs his patented mild-mannered, "button-down" personality to subtle but sharp comic effect.

5 stars TEST YOUR SENSE OF HUMOR
Like noone can do, Bob Newhart carries on a believable phone conversation with noone on the other end of the line. Few people realize he had a #1 album that had beat out the Beatles on the charts. Humor at it's best.

3 stars This album is for you, if you like Bob!
Early recording that are very fun to listen to and very funny if you are from the age in which they were produced. Clean humour! What a joy to laugh at humour, without the contemporary utiliziation of the ubiqutous cesspools of vocabulary and tastelessness of bodily functions and sexual exploitation. Sometimes it's what's not said that is most humourous.

4 stars Classic Bob
The content of this 2 cd set was excellent. It contains the best of Newhart's one sided conversational humor. I preferred the second cd, as it seems he really found his rythym in the later years. The quality of sound was very good, even though some of it is from live recordings, he is always clear, and easy to hear, and the crowd level is never an issue. If your a Newhart fan, I highly recomend this.

5 stars newhart at his best
bob newhart at his best, heard him when I was a teenager and that was 20 years ago and it brought tears to my eyes then as it did today a must for anyone with a sense of humour.

Bob Newhart has the ability to make you laugh without profanity or uncomfortable sexual references. Just good, clean fun - and still funnier than most.
