| Not quite as good as the first, but a good sequel! Jaws 2 film It's been four years since the great white shark terrorized the small resort of Amity. Now, it's happening again: unsuspecting vacationers are beginning to disappear in an all-to-familiar fashion. Only one man, Police Chief Martin Brody, knows what's really going on, but the Mayor doesn't want to take him seriously. The film, directed by Jeannot Szwarc (Enigma, Somewhere In Time, The Bug) while not as good as the first, is still not a bad sequel. There's not as much gore in this one as in the last and while that’s not a bad thing, some of the shark attack scenes lose some of their realism due to the lack of it. I also felt that there were too many sequences in the movie showing the teenagers sailing their boats and goofing around. I also didn’t care for the way one of the teenagers treated Sean, Martin Brody’s youngest son. After just having been rescued from an attack by the Great White, one of the teenagers attempting get him on their boat him angrily yells at him to grab onto the rope he's offering, as the boy hesitates. | Not bad for a sequel. Usually sequels aren't as good as the first but this was amazing, I can't say it's any better than the first but it is just as good as the original, if your a Jaws fan like me, you'll love this. By burninhell95 (Sydney, Australia) |
| A Great Sequel!! Jaws 2 review To believe that any effort to make a 'Jaws' sequel could compare with the impact of Steven Spielberg's original was a doomed notion even in 1978: the original was and is a cinematic classic of the highest order (despite having spent much of the '90s in almost-infinite rerun on the Turner networks), so much so that no sequel would ever have been able to measure up to its legacy. What happened basically is this: Universal execs saw the budget and schedule for 'Jaws' balloon so badly because of all its production troubles that they told Spielberg he'd never work in Hollywood again, UNTIL the movie was released and broke every box-office record imaginable. As they are wont to do in the face of staggering profit, these moneymongers quickly turned keel and told Spielberg they were behind him 100 percent the whole time and they wanted to know when he was planning to start shooting 'Jaws 2'. Spielberg, being smart, said 'No thanks', so the execs decided to go ahead with 'Jaws 2' without him. By maddyfan2005 (Ohio) |
| The shark is back If you liked JAWS, you'll like this one too. It's more of the same, but I do miss the Richard Dryfuss, character. Roy Scheider, and the shark are the two main characters, who again go head to head. All's well that ends well, but there are a few "munchies" for the shark in between. By charlie (bensenville, il) |
| Good Follow-Up Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water.... .3 years later and another killer shark is wrecking havoc on Amity Island. This time around Chief Brody's sons, Michael and Sean, along with their friends go on a sailing trip only to be attacked by the shark. Roy Scheider does a great job reprising his role as "Police Chief Brody" The shark attack/kill scenes are great (especially with the creepy music) and very bloody. The film has some pretty good suspense as well. The helicopter scene was insane! The ending was good too. Not as good as the original but definitely a great sequel. Check it out.
