Closed Captioned; Second Audio Track; Additional Footage; Bio/Filmographies; Soundtrack English; English Subtitles This star-packed extravaganza brings the comic book legend to the screen in grand style. It begins with Superman's scientist dad sending the infant superhero down to Earth just as the home planet, Krypton, explodes into a zillion pieces. Taking up permanent residence on Earth, the young Superman grows up into supernormal reporter Clark Kent, wooing winsome colleague Lois Lane and keeping his true identity hidden from the world. But when three villains come up with a dastardly real estate scheme that involves shoving California into the ocean, Clark Kent decides it's time to don his cape and fight the forces of evil. The Superman myth is well told, from his birth on the doomed planet Krypton to his childhood in a small Kansas town and beyond, in Richard Donner's blockbuster. After he comes of age, young Clark Kent, as his Earth parents have named him, learns the truth of his alien birth on a voyage of discovery to the Arctic. It is there that he learns--through a link to his long-dead birth parents--of his superhuman abilities and his responsibility to preserve and protect "truth, justice and the American Way." Once he adjusts to life in the big city, Metropolis, he discovers that hiding his superpowers as mild-mannered reporter Clark Kent (Christopher Reeve) isn't easy as he flirts with hard-nosed Lois Lane (Margot Kidder) and battles supervillain Lex Luthor (Gene Hackman). The film's all-star cast includes Jackie Cooper, Marlon Brando, Ned Beatty, Glenn Ford, Terence Stamp, and Valerie Perrine, among others, all camping it up wonderfully. Superman: The Movie Video Superman: The Movie Movie Review Average Rating: (4.8 out of 5 stars) the movie that started it all superman the movie is simply the first major superhero movie that started it all. I remember seeing this movie back in 1978 and was totally in awe. I liked the fact that it started from the beginning. christopher reeve was a PERFECT choice. as was gene hackman. margot kidder was so so . a better actress would have helped. the action scenes were totally cool. the helicopter scene. and the reparing of the san andrea faultline were right on. the first two supermans are the best. parts 3 and 4 are ok but not great. the effects might look dated but remember its 1978 not 2005. as of this typing a new superman will be hitting theaters in 2006 called superman returns. It's been almost twenty years . i'm ready to beleive a man can fly again. Submitted by tomao (okc , ok) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
IT'S A BIRD, IT'S A PLANE IT'S?... I thought Superman with Christopher Reeve as Clark Kent was a good live action movie. Which it's based on DC (a.k.a.) Detective comics about the superhero Superman Metropolis in New York city. Where Clark Kent works for the Daily Planet newspaper Press company with Lois Lane played by Margot Kidder. Anyways Gene Hackman was quite good as evil villain Lex Luther. Oh yeah! by the way there are three different Superman adaptions like the fifties television series. The animated one and this movie right here. Submitted by CDJay (Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
Simply one of the best The advertising campaign was built around the slogan, "You'll believe a man can fly..." Whether you do or not is irrelevant. This film is just great fun and the special effects still hold up pretty well against what's currently in movies. Submitted by crdeboer (Fresno, CA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Superman: The Movie film
$13.49 Once again mild-mannered reporter Clark Kent (Christopher Reeve), hiding his identity as Superman, must fight for law and order. This time around, a triumvirate of nasty villains from the planet Krypton break free of their dimensional prison and hightail it to Earth, where they enjoy the same superpowers as Superman. Meanwhile, Lois Lane (Margot Kidder) has discovered that Superman and Clark are the same person, so Superman debates whether to give up his abilities to become a normal man and share his life with Lois. Richard Lester (A HARD DAY'S NIGHT) takes the helm for this sequel, which is arguably the equal of the original hit film.

Superman: The Movie review
$6.99 In this visually creative space adventure from the team that would go on to give the world INDEPENDENCE DAY and GODZILLA, a timid, glasses-wearing Egyptologist (James Spader) uncovers an ancient portal to another planet and is dispatched there forthwith--along with blundering, clodfooted government troops (led by Kurt Russell). The downtrodden populace they encounter, ruled by godlike, androgynous King Ra (Jaye Davidson, in his first role after becoming a star in THE CRYING GAME), must be led to literacy and freedom; Ra must be defeated; the intellectual must find his machismo; and our boys must return to Earth.

Superman: The Movie video
$10.35 When audiences caught a glimpse of an alien skull mounted in the trophy cabinet of a Predator in the 1990 film PREDATOR 2, it seemed a franchise was about to be born. Sure enough, comic book artists immediately seized on the possibilities suggested by the brief scene, and a number of skirmishes between the deadly foes were played out on the printed page. Fans have had to endure a lengthy wait for a cinematic match-up, but writer-director Paul W.S. Anderson (EVENT HORIZON) has finally delivered the blood-splattered goods in ALIEN VS. PREDATOR. Set in the near future, a team of archaeologists lead by Charles Wiedland (Lance Henriksen, returning for more ALIEN action after appearances in the second and third films) ventures towards an inexplicable "hot zone" detected in Antarctica. Joined by Alexa Woods (Sanaa Lathan) and the requisite amount of human fodder for the otherworldly creatures to feast on, Wiedland and his cohorts discover a sizeable underground pyramid. Chaos ensues as they awake the Queen alien from her blissful slumber, causing face-hugging and chest-bursting scenes aplenty. But the ailing crew has a further quandary to grapple with in the shape of some fearsome Predators, who are using the aliens as bait for their offspring to brawl with in an ancient initiation ritual. With the human team trapped in the labyrinth-like pyramid, the battle evolves into a nail-biting three-way tussle between the archaeologists and their extraterrestrial adversaries. Fans of both the ALIEN and PREDATOR movies should find much to satiate their appetites here, and with an ending suggesting further hostilities between the pernicious coupling, this one looks set to run and run.

Superman: The Movie review
$13.59 Alfred Hitchcock adapted this political thriller from Leon Uris's dense, complex spy novel, loosely based on actual events in the life of French spy Philippe de Vosjoli. The title, TOPAZ, refers not to the stone but to the Topaz Group, a nefarious band of French spies. Traveling through Cuba, Denmark, New York, and Virginia, among other locations, Hitchcock's tale tells of a Soviet scientist's defection that sparks an international furor extending way beyond the act itself. The story begins with American CIA agent Michael Nordstrom (John Forsythe), who is instrumental in uncovering Russian plans to place missiles in Cuba. For confirmation he turns to French agent Andre Devereaux (Frederick Stafford), who travels to Cuba to gather information. In the process, he discovers evidence of a shocking betrayal. The conclusion of the film is one of four endings Hitchcock filmed. This was one of two cold war-themed films directed by Hitchcock at the urging of his studio, the other being TORN CURTAIN.
