Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals: Ben Harper (vocals, guitar); Juan Nelson (bass, background vocals); Dean Butterworth (drums, background vocals); Nick Rich, Rahzel (background vocals).
Throughout the '90s, Ben Harper's blend of blues, funk, soul, and folk quietly earned him a hardcore following of diehard fans over the span of four studio albums. For the two-CD LIVE FROM MARS, Harper and his tight three-piece band the Innocent Criminals cull performances from a variety of concerts, featuring interesting arrangements and odd nuances applied to his best-known songs, along with an eclectic array of covers.
Armed with his hollow-neck '20s-era Weissenborn lap slide guitar, Harper rages throughout the plugged-in Disc One with highlights including the human-beat box-driven radio hit "Steal My Kisses," and the churning opening number "Glory & Consequence." "Burn One Down," a sprightly ode to herb, evokes Bob Marley's "Redemption Song," while a simmering "Sexual Healing" channels the spirit of Marvin Gaye. Unplugged and introspective, Disc Two overflows with Biblical metaphors captured in delicate numbers like "Waiting on An Angel," "Power of the Gospel," and "In the Lord's Arms." Tying it all together is a heartfelt reading of the Verve's "The Drugs Don't Work," and the epic 10-minute closer "Like a King/I'll Rise," featuring lyrics borrowed from a Maya Angelou poem.

At his finest........ If you haven't seen Ben Harper live yet, what's wrong w/ you?? BUT this is the next best thing. Listening to this album is not just 'listening'....it's experiencing. I can't think of another singer's voice other than Ben's that makes me feel like I'm right there beside him when he's singing. You don't just hear it , you feel it.
Disc #1 is great, but when Disc #2 plays, you can't get enough.
What more can I say??! I have listened to this album more times than I'd like to admit :)
BUY IT NOW!!!

Live From Mars album
$19.79 Recorded live at the Chicago Blues Festival and Buddy Guy's Legends, Chicago, Illinois in 1995 and Zoo Bar, Lincoln, Nebraska in 1997. Include liner notes by Alan Paul.
LIVE IN CHICAGO was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album.
Life can be unjust, such as in the case of blues legend Luther Allison, who found the upward trajectory of his career in the States derailed by a fatal bout with cancer three years after returning from two decades of self-imposed exile in Europe. The 2-CD LIVE IN CHICAGO captures the man's brilliance in cuts taken from concerts recorded at 1995's Chicago Blues Festival and Buddy Guy's Legends, as well as four tracks from ...
| | Horrors Strange House CD (2007) Enhanced CD
Live From Mars CD music
$9.99 On their singles and EPs, the Horrors proved they'd done their post-punk and freakbeat homework. With their debut album, Strange House, they push their sound forward, distill it to its rawest essence, and give it a few funhouse mirror twists and turns for good measure. Almost half of the songs on the album already appeared on previous Horrors releases, but the ever-so-slightly cleaner production here gives more definition to their black-on-black sound. The band kicks off Strange House by revisiting their cover of Screaming Lord Sutch's "Jack the Ripper," which begins at a zombie-slow pace, then ...

$11.35 In the three years-plus interim between this and his last studio album, Ben Harper traversed the world, and the already introspective singer/songwriter has clearly done even more soul-searching and emerged with his most earnest (and that's no mean feat), focused set to date. DIAMONDS ON THE INSIDE flows organically with that transcendent feeling exemplfied by lines so simple and revealing ...

$10.39 If, in 2006, someone who knew absolutely nothing about electronica asked what the term electronica meant, he/she might get a narrow, uninformed response like, "True electronica is always rave music." Or, if the person asking the question spoke to someone who was truly knowledgeable, he/she would be told that electronica is many different styles -- some of them abrasive and harsh, some of them downright lush. And the fact that electronica went to different extremes in 2006 was a positive ...
