Mel Gibson, Helen Hunt, Marisa Tomei, Mark Feuerstein, Lauren Holly, Alan Alda - Dir:Nancy Meyers Nick Marshall (Mel Gibson), a Chicago advertising executive, gets a whole new outlook on life when a fluke accident gives him the ability to read women's minds. At first, this "gift" provides Nick with way too much information, but he begins to realize that he can use it to good effect, especially when it comes to outwitting his new boss, Darcy McGuire (Helen Hunt). In spite of his best efforts to finesse Darcy, he soon finds himself falling in love and ultimately understanding what women want. Director, writer, and producer Nancy Meyers's (THE PARENT TRAP) sophomore directorial effort is a lively screwball fantasy featuring Mel Gibson in his first romantic comedy. Gibson plays Nick Marshall, a high-flying chauvinistic Chicago advertising executive who, like his musical idol, Frank Sinatra, calls women "baby" and believes he has the world on a string. Nick experiences a rude awakening when the creative director position he coveted goes to Darcy Maguire (Helen Hunt), a savvy outsider--and a woman--who intends to aggressively pursue the lucrative women's market. While trying to brainstorm ideas for "feminine" products, Nick experiences a freak accident that gives him the ability to hear women's thoughts. Determined to win back his stolen job, Nick uses his terrifying yet useful new talent to scrutinize Darcy and finds his smart, beautiful rival may not be the "bitch on wheels" he imagined. Meanwhile, he also must maneuver carefully within complex relationships with his estranged teenage daughter, Alex (Ashley Johnson), and a pretty coffee shop waitress, Lola (Marisa Tomei). Once Nick begins to listen to the new voices he hears, his previous worldview is challenged, and he finds that he finally might understand what women want. Theatrical release: December 15, 2000.
Director Nancy Meyers has cowritten many well-known screenplays with her husband, writer-director Charles Shyer, including PRIVATE BENJAMIN, IRRECONCILABLE DIFFERENCES, and FATHER OF THE BRIDE.

Helen Hunt (Darcy Maguire) won a Best Actress Oscar for her role in AS GOOD AS IT GETS and five Best Actress Emmy awards for playing Jamie Buchman on the popular sitcom MAD ABOUT YOU.
Alan Alda (Dan Wanamaker) won five Emmy awards for portraying Hawkeye Pierce on the beloved television series M*A*S*H, which ran for 11 years. Alda was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame in 1994.
Screenwriters Josh Goldsmith and Cathy Yuspa are both writers and producers for the popular television sitcom THE KING OF QUEENS. What Women Want Reviews: "...Gibson [is] always a lethal weapon, even without a gun in his pocket." -- 3 out of 4 stars

What Women Want Movie Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) WHAT MEN SHOULD WATCH A GREAT MOVIE FOR BOTH SEXES; AND A GREAT LOVE/COMEDY MOVIE! DON'T THINK THEY COULD OF FOUND A BETTER PERSON TO PLAY THE 'MALE' ROLE THAN MEL GIBSON! Submitted by Ashley (Philadelphia, PA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
mel gibson knows women I have always loved Mel Gibson. I think this movie proves how diverse he can be. I think he should play more leading roles like this. My husband and I both enjoyed this move very much. If only all men knew what women really wanted. Submitted by jennifer (apple valley, caliornia, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
A good role for Gibson Mel Gibson is funny, but the rest of the cast fails to do their part. Submitted by Blake (Brandon,MS) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
a great movie with an excellent plot Mel Gibson should do more comedy. This
movie is not only funny but it is great
watching Mel Gibson playing this part.
The whole cast is great and there are many subplots going on in the movie.
Helen hunt is excellent and the two of them have excellent chemistry. Marisa
Tomei is so funny in this movie. It has
a great storyline Mel Gibson due to
some accident can read women's minds.
He works at a ad agency and uses this
gift to try and get Helen Hunt's job.
He starts out as a arogant man who
holds little respect for women. It
shows his relationship with his daughter which is very touching. This movie's plot just gets better and better and he becomes a changed man.
The scene of Mel Gibson dancing is
priceless. This is a funny, romantic,
comedy with a great plot. The movie
makes Mel Gibson's character learn to
respect women.

A very funny Mel ison movie! What Women Want is a funny and hilarious romantic flick. Where Gibson plays this make-up perfume product business tycoon salesman who ends up putting on these ladies cosmetic testing products on him. Like he puts on eyelash first then lipstick and nailpolish from his apartment home bathroom he's doing from that scene in What Women Want. Suddenly Mel Gibson accidentally spills these thumbtack pins onto the bathroom floor and falls right in the bathtub filled with water in it. Then all of the sudden the toaster lands in the tub and gives him a electric shock. And after that te next scene he goes to work and women pass by him by not saying anything to Mel Gibson. So now he can read and also hear women's thoughts for sure when he ends up with a strange and mysterious occurance in his own mind that's happening to him already. I hope they make a second sequel for this movie and call it this time What Men Really Want. And have another australian turned american actress not actor this time like Tom Cruise's use to be ex-wife Nicole Kidman but anymore. Have her to the story of the movie where she'll play the female victim single businesswoman and starts developing by also hearing male men's thoughts on the women sexiest human sex relationship conversation talk into a whole different comedy as well. Mel Gibson which he was originally raised in Australia during his early years growing up and born in New York city. He played a male victim single guy character in What Women Want. Hears weird strange female women's secret thoughts did it also which I reviewed this movie here. Submitted by Jason Ross (Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada) Was This Review Helpful? $8.69 Dirk (Matthew McConaughey) and Al (Steve Zahn) have been friends since kindergarten, having also gone through college and the Navy together. The two now work for a former admiral traveling around the world and salvaging treasures from the sea with the National Underwater and Marine Agency (NUMA). What Women Want video
$7.19 COCOON: A group of senior citizens residing in a rest home find their lives turned upside down after they are offered the gift of eternal youth by benevolent aliens in Ron Howard's wonderful tribute to the human spirit. Brian Dennehy is Walter, an alien who returns to earth to rescue 20 of his friends now hibernating in cocoons off the coast of Florida. With the help of a charter boat captain (Steve Guttenberg), the cocoons are stored in a deserted swimming pool. When three men from a nearby retirement village (the charming Don Ameche, Wilford Brimley, and Hume Cronyn) sneak into the pool for a swim, they discover what seem to be oversized oystershells in the water. Suddenly they feel physically and spiritually rejuvenated, believing they've found the long elusive Fountain of Youth. The men's frisky behavior causes something of a controversy in the retirement village as residents are forced to choose between a second youth or accepting the more natural aging process. The ensemble cast of experienced actors, including Ameche, Brimley, and Cronyn as well as Cronyn's real-life wife, Jessica Tandy; Maureen Stapleton; Gwen Verdon; and the skeptical Jack Gilford all bring a dignity to the film's youthful, spirited theme. COCOON, one of the best films of the 1980s, is a heartwarming story that should be treasured for generations.
COCOON 2: THE RETURN: In director Daniel Petrie's sequel to the smash hit COCOON, the retirees who chose to leave earth to live forever return home for a temporary visit with their loved ones while their alien escorts attempt to rescue a cocoon dislodged by a pesky ...
