| | Jeff Beck Blow By Blow CD Jeff Beck Discography of CDs
(11 Customer Reviews)
Realizing the overwhelming response he received in concert with his extended instrumental breaks, Beck finally bit the bullet and released his first all-instrumental work in 1975. The jazz-rock tour de force BLOW BY BLOW was produced by Beatles mainman George Martin and proved that Beck's six-string skills could easily carry an album. Completely inspired by the challenge and surrounded by a stellar band and solid compositions, Beck lets loose throughout. The result is one of his very best works. Highlights include the funky opening track "You Know What I Mean," a pair of Stevie Wonder-penned tracks ("Cause We've Ended as Lovers" and "Thelonious"), and the classic rock-radio staple "Freeway Jam."

Jeff Beck at his finest! If you're a Jeff Beck fan you'll love this one. A wonderful mix of Jazz and the wildness of Becks powerful guitar. Submitted by a reviewer (Daytona Bch., FL) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
One of the best guitar master works ever. Ok, so after just receiving my long awaited copy of “Blow by Blow”, Digitally Remastered, Reissued and being Remixed by George Martin my vote is final. This is ‘one’ of the all-time best guitar master works ever. “Scatterbrain”, “Cause We've Ended As Lovers”, “Freeway Jam” and of course “Diamond Dust” being the highlights. The other trac’s are also very worthy grooves on this CD. The playback on a $10k+ rig is incredible but if you have no perks as a professional it also sounds great on my iPod ripped in high-res. :-) Submitted by DM (MotorCity-Rocks) Was This Review Helpful? Blow by Blow is Amazing Been listening to this one for more than 25 years and am still amazed by it. It is an album that needs always to be heard from beginning to end ... a complete piece. The impact is always there. Simply a beautifully written, composed, and engineered experience. And believe me, I am not underscoring the astounding guitar work of Mr. Beck. He simply blends is so humbly into the complex blend of Blow by Blow. Submitted by designglory (High Point, NC) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
life changing being a huge zeppelin fanatic at 13,i couldnt help but hear of jeff beck ,jimmys old buddy. this album had a huge impact on the way i play guitar. i wanted those fluid runs he does on "shes a woman" and the string bending sensuality of "cause weve ended as lovers".this is definately the best rock instrumental album , unless you include billy cobhams "spectrum" on the list. | | Mike Bloomfield Super Session CD (1968) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Blow By Blow music CDs
$6.75 A surprise best-seller when it was first released, this mostly improvised pairing of singer/keyboardist/producer Al Kooper with two major guitar heroes of the day sounds fascinating all these years later precisely because of the distance of time--nobody makes records like this any more. The material runs the gamut from folk pop (covers of Donovan and Dylan), to blues ("Albert's Shuffle," "You Don't Love Me"), to heady jams ("His Holy Modal Majesty"), to big-band jazz ("Harvey's Tune").
All the tunes make effective templates for the kind off-the-cuff music-making that in less capable hands might have resulted in simple noodling. In fact, although Bloomfield and Stills don't play together on any of the cuts (Bloomfield played on one side of the original LP, Stills on the other), all three principals get off lots of good licks and producer Kooper has some interesting tricks up his sleeve, as in the over-the-top phasing he lavishes on "You Don't Love Me." The only real disappointment here is that Stills, a far better singer than Kooper, never opens his mouth.
Those familiar with the Live Adventures ...
| | Jeff Beck Truth CD (1968) Bonus Track; Remastered
Blow By Blow songs
$6.25 The Jeff Beck Group's debut, 1968's TRUTH remains a stunner, probably the best work of the guitarist's long career. Perhaps energized by the bust-up of the Yardbirds, Beck is positively overflowing with ideas throughout the entire album, which pointedly starts with a completely different recasting of the Yardbirds hit "Shapes of Things." TRUTH then continues through an impressively varied set of tunes, ranging from an achingly slow, bluesy version of the Broadway standard "Ol' Man River" to a technically astounding acoustic solo version of "Greensleeves" and a killer pair of Willie Dixon covers including a take on "You Shook Me" that shreds Led Zeppelin's contemporaneous version. Throughout, the then-unknown Rod Stewart sings his heart out; he's as important to the album as Beck himself, and it's unsurprising that when Stewart and bassist Ron Wood left to form the Faces, the Jeff Beck Group never recovered.
Jeff Beck's Truth -- which was already regarded as the pioneering heavy metal blues album of its era, beating Led Zeppelin to the punch by about six months -- got a lot better with this British import remastered reissue, which puts ...
| | Santana Caravanserai CD (1972) Remastered
Blow By Blow album
$7.59 Though there were hints of jazz fusion on Santana's first three albums, 1972's CARAVANSERAI introduced a dramatic shift in the band's sound, away from essentially pop-based music to a freer, more harmonically complex jazz/rock hybrid. In addition, the record marked a splintering of the original Santana lineup (soon to splinter further still with the departure of organist Gregg Rolie and guitarist Neal Schon, who then formed Journey).
Seemingly unconcerned with the pursuit of hit singles, guitarist Carlos Santana and crew here turn in an exquisitely moody disc of mostly instrumental jamming with a brooding intensity akin to Miles Davis's classic BITCHES BREW, underscored by the San Francisco-based ensemble's trademark propulsive rhythms. The new approach reaches its apex ...
