tropical paradise Donovans reef is about 3 buddies living in paradise after WWII. It makes you wish those places and times still existed. This is a fun movie very enjoyable. Good for a relaxing sunday afternoon. By doubledp (Phoenix, Arizona)
It's a fun movie It's kind of a corny old movie. The story line is a little unbelievable. But it's still a fun film, a little out of character for John Wayne and Lee Marvin. When you think of these two in the same film, a "tough guy" film automatically comes to mind. But it's still enjoyable, and the scenery can't be beat. By Jetfxr3009 (Las Vegas, NV, USA)
OLd Movie I love old movies, and what is great is that I couldnt find this movie anywhere. I have loved it since I was a kid. By raquel_e_fiallos (Sacramento, CA)
Another "Duke" Great Loved the music and the acting by Lee Marvin was fantastic. By a reviewer (Washington State)
Donovan´s Grief Being a big fan of the Duke and having seen and liked some of the other comedy type films he did (e.g. Hatari! & McLintock!) I took a chance on this one. Usually this pays off but not here. Even the Ford/Wayne team made stinkers and this is one of them. The script & plot outline is pretty helpless and there`s a couple of characters that have more scenes than their importance to what little plot there is entitle them to. And then there´s the pitting of Wayne & Lee Marvin as the leads. Marvin`s character becomes secondary once Allen`s city girl is introduced (which happens pretty early in the film). From then on it`s sort of a Taming-Of-The-Shrew story between Wayne & Allen. I guess they figured that it would sell more tickets if they marketed it with two male leads, supposed to fight over the city girl. This doesn`t happen I`m afraid. I can`t bring my self to give it only one star (it`s Wayne after all)but I`ve come close. So, bottom line: Only if you`re a die-hard Duke fan should you even consider investing in this. And if you do consider, do so long and hard. By a reviewer (Kokkedal, Denmark)

Donovan's Reef DVD John Wayne is Jacob McCandles, an aging cowboy in an Old West that is on the verge of modernization. When his eight-year-old grandson is kidnapped by a violent gang led by the evil John Fain (Richard Boone), Jacob's estranged wife (Maureen O' Hara) enlists his help to rescue the boy. Jacob and his three sons (one of whom is portrayed by Wayne's real-life son Patrick) set out to bring the gang to justice. This late-period Wayne western is characterized by a gritty realism not present in most of his earlier works. The surprisingly graphic violence is also tempered with abundant humor.

Donovan's Reef video John Wayne stars as Sean Mercer, a tough trapper who travels the world to capture animals and sell them to zoos. As he and his ragtag crew roam the plains of Africa searching for giraffes and zebras, they encounter Anna Maria "Dallas" D'Allesandro (Elsa Martinelli), a beautiful photographer who asks to travel with them. While the crew presses on, the excitement of the chase inevitably causes feelings of attraction to grow between gruff Mercer and pretty Dallas. Stunning wildlife photography colors this classic from legendary director Howard Hawks.
John Wayne leads the way in an exciting action adventure about big game hunters in Africa. The wildlife photography is top-notch and there's just enough of a story to bridge the action sequences.

Donovan's Reef film Frank Pierce (Bruce Cabot) is a ruthless man bent on manipulating the cattle business towards his own wealth and prosperity. When Taw Jackson (John Wayne), an honest rancher, interferes with his plans, Pierce imprisons him and confiscates his gold-filled land. Escaping the prison, Taw plans a raid on Pierce's heavily guarded pay roll carriage, but not if Pierce has anything to say about it. After assembling a group of misfits and hired guns, Taw runs into serious opposition when he encounters the madcap gunslinger, Lomax (Kirk Douglas). Sent by Pierce to stop the raid, Lomax winds up taking a liking to Taw, and they decide to join forces and stage a raid on Pierce's WAR WAGON.
Famous for its fighting scenes between John Wayne and Kirk Douglas, WAR WAGON is quintessential of its genre. WAR WAGONS features astonishing stunts and pyrotechnics. Advanced for its time (it was released in 1969) one would think Kennedy produced it in the mid '70s. The climactic end scene which pits Douglas and Wayne against a Gatling gun has spawned similar scenes in RED DAWN and YOUNG GUNS. WAR WAGON is a modern and triumphant film.

Sons of Katie Elder DVD (1965) Top Seller

Donovan's Reef DVD In this action-packed Western, three wandering sons return home to attend the funeral of their mother, Katie Elder, who's been murdered. The brothers then set their sights on the man responsible for her death, as well as for the death of their father, who was killed six months earlier. They receive help from a fourth brother, who has remained at home. However, getting revenge won't be easy because the culprit, who has also gained possession of the family's ranch, will do anything to stop them--including hiring an assassin to kill the oldest brother, John. This classic late-era John Wayne Western features a musical score that bears a suspicious resemblance to the MAGNIFICENT SEVEN theme. (Both were written by Elmer Bernstein.) Also starring in Henry Hathaway's excellent cast are Dean Martin, Earl Holliman, James Gregory, George Kennedy, and Dennis Hopper.
John Wayne, Dean Martin, Martha Hyer, Michael Anderson Jr., Earl Holliman, Dennis Hopper - Dir:Henry Hathaway Katie Elder's four sons return home to Clearwater, Texas to pay their last respects on the day their mother is buried. John Wayne is the oldest and toughest son, the gunslinger. Tom is good with a deck of cards and good with a gun when he has to be. Matt is the quiet one; nobody ever called him yellow--twice. Bud is the youngest. Whatever hopes for respectability the Elder name has lies with him. Not only is this a man's story, but it is also a drama of the maternal influence of Katie Elder, her sacrifice, love and incredible valor.
