Oneida were born a little too late, and that's probably a good thing for post-punk fans at the end of the '90s. The band has been greatly influenced by Wire and other later punk innovators like Hüsker Dü, transferring many of those bands' elements to the palette of the late '90s. Oneida keep their attention to tune and quick playing, but incorporate bits of garage rock, noise art, and even free jazz. Enemy Hogs defies categorization itself, the only possible class being the rather blanket-like "art rock." When they use lyrics, (which isn't too often) they are punchy, pronounced, and direct. And they play all types of instruments, finding new sounds for each organ, horn, or string. Most importantly, though, Oneida keep on rocking all the way through. What's also very impressive about the band is their recording technique and gift for capturing such a live sound in the studio. Certainly they could play loud and together with no overdubs, but that alone wouldn't make Enemy Hogs sound the way that it does. They exercise enough restraint to sound good, rather than just noisy, and they're no slouches when it comes to skill, either. Oneida play with deft precision and speed. Often, supergroups wind up dominated by one particular personality - think Eric Clapton in Derek & the Dominos, Jack White in the Raconteurs -- which makes the egalitarianism of Them Crooked Vultures all the more remarkable. Canada's Ashley Lauren Robertson is a young newcomer to the country music scene. Born March 3rd, 1984 in Winnipeg, she showed remarkable musical promise at a tender age. She started piano lessons at age six and later took up guitar, Dobro guitar, banjo and mandolin guitar. Her interest in country music came naturally from her parents' recordings of Patsy Cline, Marty Robbins, Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, Johnny Horton and many others. Her modern day influences include Alison Krauss, the Dixie Chicks, Brad Paisley, and Shania Twain. In 2000, Ashley joined the Manitoba Country Music Association and became a frequent performer at the MCMA's songwriter's nights. In the MCMA, she found encouragement to venture south to Nashville, where she has performed at the Boardwalk Café, the Broken Spoke, the Gibson Bluegrass Showcase, and the Bluebird Café. At age 17, Ashley began to further her development as an artist under the tutelage of Allen Frizzell of the legendary Frizzell family. "Ashley is one of the most talented female singer-songwriters I've had the pleasure to work with," says Allen. Working alongside Allen and his wife Gayle of Frizzell House M-U-S-I-C, Ashley continuously works on her songwriting and records demos whenever she can.
