The Jamaican art form known as dub emerged in the late '60s originating, as do most musical styles on the island, in dancehall culture. The first dubs were simply backing tracks with the vocals removed, but once King Tubby entered the field, dub became an end in itself, and by the mid-'70s the Golden Age of dub was in full swing. This collection has several tracks from the master, King Tubby, as well as selections from other '70s innovators, including Niney the Observer and Lee "Scratch" Perry, and functions as a fine introduction to a fascinating genre. ~ Steve Leggett
