Renaissance: Desire finds British ex-journo remixer Dave Seaman fighting to keep his delicate talents from being swallowed by an indifference of the popular progressive trance scene. Rather than allowing the long-drawn-out feel of the previous year's Global Underground installment to seep too far, Seaman is more aware of his weak spots for mood and tone. Large sections of the first disc verge on the early-'90s ambient dance movement, including Francois K's remix of Finley Quaye's "Spiritualized," Lovesky's "Drums 4 Better Daze," and Pete Heller's liberal mix of Moby's "Southside," while the anthem-ready climaxes appear but briefly in tracks like Sputnik's compilation-ready "Stylus Trouble." There's a passing reminder of the Trance Europe Express series in the second disc. Junkie XL, Slacker, and Seaman's own remix of Placebo's "Passive Aggressive" work well in the casual bend of the disc, though Seaman's distanced touch does the final impact no favors. It, along with much of the release, is too busy with constructing mixed academics for it to thrill or comfort much, the product of an acclaimed second-generation DJ being pulled apart by good intentions and his own creative panic. ~ Dean CarlsonQ (6/01, p.123) - 4 stars out of 5 - "...Without a duff tune or weak mix in sight, this is that rare thing: an intriguing, intelligent dance compilation that simply demands to be danced to." CMJ (5/14/01, p.20) - "...There's no denying it: Seaman's tight....riding gorgeous grooves rhythms straight into cosmic funk on disc one, following the course into peak-time prog-house on disc two..." Renaissance: Desire album
$13.25 Imagine having talent like Michael Brecker, Bob Berg and Dave Samuels on board, then not giving them enough room to stretch out. That's exactly what happens on electric keyboardist Jason Miles' World Tour -- a sometimes radio-friendly jazz/pop/R&B album that overall, is marred by an excess of production and a shortage of improvisation. Miles' songs themselves aren't all bad -- far from it. In fact, the keyboardist ...

| | Sofia Hardig The Need To Destroy CD (2006) (Import)
Renaissance: Desire CD music
$18.55 On the 21 of august 2006 Sofia Härdig's album 'The Need To Destroy' is released. The new songs which are written, recorded and produced by Sofia herself states a new direction in her career. More synthesizers, programming and strange sounds. Cool, sharp and sexy electronica as in 'Sea Fever' and 'Mancall'. Grinding guitars and industrial sounds in 'Sitting Still' and 'Sonicyouthescue' hammering popguitars in 'Wait' In 'Believe in me' the sound of beautiful heartbroken strings join hands with the sound of steelmills and concrete crushing. And on top of that her extraordinary voice, by many considered to be the best female rock-voice around. In June the first single 'Little Delight' was released. A truly delightful piece which binds together laid-back guitars and a Hammond organ with cool electronical sounds and programming. The single also provides us with two unreleased tracks from The Need To Destroy-sessions. 'Getting Withing' and 'Nothing can save', are two very strong outtakes. The Album The Need To destroy has gained raw reviews in the press worldwide and a lot of attenitons an interviews has followed the release..Sofia Härdig has from the start demanded attention. With her bands she'sgained great reviews nationally and internationally. In 2003 she starts off with a tour to New York. Playing at CBGB:s twice, doingtwo live shows at Unitygain television and various club gigs. As well as playing with her band 'Sofia Härdig And The Needles' a new band is formed with Johnny Essing (bob hund, Bergman Rock) and Mikael ...
