(5 Customer Reviews)
2 LPs on 1 CD: AND I LOVE YOU SO (1973)/IT'S IMPOSSIBLE (1971). Recorded in Nashville, Tennessee and New York, New York in 1973 & 1970. Originally released on RCA (0100) & RCA (4473). Recording information: 05/05/1970-04/04/1973. Collectables Records' two-fer CD reissue of 1973's And I Love You So and 1970's It's Impossible combines on one disc Perry Como's last two successful albums, each of which made the Top 40, as did their title songs. In each case, it was the title song that inspired the album. By the early '70s, Como was recording less frequently, and with "It's Impossible" and "And I Love You So" he scored surprise crossover singles that topped the easy listening charts and also scaled the pop charts. The albums were rushed out to take advantage of those hits, with Como quickly cutting his own versions of some contemporary hits. Thus, this disc can be thought of as "Perry Como Sings the Hits of the Early '70s." Songs associated with the Carpenters ("Sing," "[They Long to Be] Close to You," "We've Only Just Begun") are especially prominent, along with music associated with the Beatles ("Something") and Simon & Garfunkel ("El Condor Pasa"), and there are three songs written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David ("Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head," "A House Is Not a Home," "[They Long to Be] Close to You"). Producers Chet Atkins and Don Costa use contemporary soft rock arrangements similar to the hit versions, which means Como, a former big-band singer used to lightly swinging, has to be more on the beat than he may have been accustomed to. The rendition of the Partridge Family's "I Think I Love You" gives him particular trouble in this regard, in addition to being a singularly unsuitable piece of material for him. But he negotiates most of the songs well, and, of course, the two title songs remain signature songs for him. ~ William Ruhlmann And I Love You So/It's Impossible Music And I Love You So/It's Impossible Music Review Average Rating: (4.8 out of 5 stars) Oldies Are the Best It is great to that we still can have this music from the past to listen to. Some great songs These are 2 great albums from Perry Como that have some wonderful songs such as RAINDROPS KEEP FALLING ON MY HEAD, IT'S IMPOSSIBLE, AND I LOVE YOU SO, among several others. It is not nearly my favorite Perry Como albums. They would be his older 1950's and 1960's albums such as his christmas releases and BY REQUEST/SING TO ME, MR.C. Those have a real "crooner" sound as these 2 releases mix the crooner sound with country and acoustic rock. It is still good, though, as Perry Como is such a great singer (my favorite) and that is why the 5 stars, but I do prefer the older Perry Como stuff, the real "crooner" music. Perry Como is still the greatest! I have grown up listening to my parents' old records, and I love the beautiful songs of decades ago! Perry Como is by far my favorite artist. I already owned a copy of the original LP, "And I Love You So," so I was thrilled to learn that Collectables had released it, along with the album "It's Impossible," on one CD! Now I can listen to all of my favorite songs by Mr. C anywhere I'd like. This CD is of superior quality, and it is the best compilation of songs I could imagine! If you liked the way the original records sounded, you'll love this CD even better. I'm in college, but I recommend this album to anyone of any age. I'm sorry that Perry has passed on, but it is so refreshing to hear his songs and know that they are still available! Thank you, Collectables!
