Closed Captioned; Bio/Filmographies; Soundtrack English; Director's Comments; Dolby Digital 5.1 Re; Behind The Scenes Based on a best-selling novel by Catherine Ryan Hyde and boasting the star power of two Oscar winners and a young nominee--Kevin Spacey, Helen Hunt, and Haley Joel Osment--PAY IT FORWARD spins a heartwarming yarn about an 11-year-old boy who comes up with an utopian idea as a project for school. History teacher Eugene Simenot (Spacey) offers the same ongoing extra-credit assignment he has proffered every year: Come up with an idea that will change the world. However, he expects nothing more from his students than halfhearted efforts that fall far shy of their mark. Simenot is therefore unprepared for precocious, irrepressible Trevor McKinney (played with wide-eyed wonder by Osment), who conjures up a stunning scheme. Trevor suggests the concept that every person who benefits from someone else's good deed should "pay it forward," instead of paying it back, and in turn offer favors to three other people. The first guinea pig for Trevor's experiment is his overworked, imperfect mom (Helen Hunt) for whom he tries to find a boyfriend.
Director Mimi Leder, best known for such powerful thrillers as DEEP IMPACT, imbues the solid script of PAY IT FORWARD with a more grandiose aura. However, it is the movie's triumvirate of heralded stars--Spacey, Hunt, and Osment--that propels this compelling yarn. Theatrical release: October 20, 2000.

Pay It Forward Movie Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Heart rending Is there anyone out there that can't identify in some way or other with the vast array of emotions and experiences within this film? Moreover, are not the situations something of what you have lived through in the past as well? Maybe instead of scratching around for some hollow and superficial panacea that we can use to excuse our attitudes and behaviour, we could look to the central theme of this film as a way to bring people together. Do them a kindness, care for them, your conscience would enjoy the holiday! Buy the film and at least enjoy the spirit of its meaning. Submitted by michael (England) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
One of the best Excellent movie. Very touching on many aspects. It challenges three of the very current problems with society. Submitted by a reviewer (Lebanon OH) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Time for retrospection In a world full of anger and violence a small boy's hopes and dreames are forged out of imagination and a basic human concept......we all want to do good things but fail to follow through. The ending was very sad. While I may think it was an inappropriate way to end the movie it might have been the best way to bring home the horror of not following through acts of kindness or good deeds. An excellent movie to bring humility to ones thought process. Submitted by a reviewer (Evansville, Indiana) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$6.99 Director Gus Van Sant brings to the screen this moving story of a grizzled recluse and an inner-city teenager brought together by their shared passion for writing. Like Van Sant's Oscar-nominated GOOD WILL HUNTING, FINDING FORRESTER earnestly explores the struggles of a youthful genius whose position in society (underprivileged kid from the wrong side of the tracks) makes him seem destined for failure until he forms a relationship with a gifted but introverted mentor who helps him see the light. The youthful genius is a talented urban basketball player named Jamal Wallace (Rob Brown), who in his spare time reads everything ...

$10.29 It is the late 1950s, but it might as well be the late 1850s in a small French town where everyone behaves as they should (supposedly), and attends church regularly. When a strong North wind blows through town, it brings the vivacious and mysterious Vianne (Juliette Binoche) and her young daughter Anouk (Victoire Thivisol). Vianne is soon the talk of the town: an unwed mother who declines to go to church and opens up a chocolate shop in the midst of Lent. Her good-natured, honorable personality and psychic ability (she can predict what kind of sweets best suit each person, and magically cures each of them of their particular maladies) make her as irresistible as her delectable treats. However, Vianne and her daughter are resented by the conservative mayor, the Comte de Reynaud (Alfred Molina), and by the pious Caroline (Carrie-Anne Moss), ...

$7.05 In this high-intensity drama, based on the novel by Tom Clancy, Ben Affleck stars as Jack Ryan, the CIA agent from Clancy's THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER, PATRIOT GAMES, and CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER. Here, Ryan is dealing with a terrifying new problem: a nuclear weapon has fallen into the hands of foreign terrorists who are determined to create a war between Russia and the U.S.
As the film begins, a South African arms dealer (Colm Feore) acquires a long-lost nuclear weapon and sells it, at great profit, to a resurgent group of fascists led by Dressler (Alan Bates), who plans to lure the U.S. and Russia into a war. Soon after, the Russian premiere dies and the relatively unknown Nemerov (Ciarán Hinds) replaces him. But U.S. president Fowler (James Cromwell) smells a rat, and calls CIA chief William Cabot (Morgan Freeman) and special agent Jack Ryan (Affleck), the junior analyst who has been researching Nemerov, into action.
THE SUM OF ALL FEARS is a powerful addition to Tom Clancy's techno-thriller series. Affleck is effective, and there are notable supporting performances from Freeman, Cromwell, Feore, Hinds, Bates, and Liev Schreiber as a CIA operative. Director Phil Alden Robinson manages the action with great skill. Particularly notable are the terrifying nuclear ...

Pay It Forward movie DVD
$13.95 Bearing the brunt of being Elvis Presley's only child, Lisa Marie Presley wisely chose to sit back and experience life before emerging with her full-length debut album TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN. The results are surprisingly good, thanks to Presley's decision to sidestep becoming some prefabricated pop mannequin and instead take the creative reigns by penning all the lyrics, save the lament "The Road Between." Most of the record is steeped in dark imagery that goes well with her smoky phrasing and finds her serving up autobiographical tidbits like "Someone turned the lights out there in Memphis/That's where my family's buried and gone" from the mid-tempo rock of "Lights Out." A slow-burn vitriol that could be construed as being directed at former spouse Michael Jackson bubbles up throughout the simmering "Important," and will surely have ...

$10.29 With the release of Robert Altman's M*A*S*H in 1970, a new form of comedy was born, one that would help to forever change the face of cinema. Altman's audacious film reflected the American counterculture's growing distrust of religion and government in the late 1960s and early 1970s, resulting in one of the biggest box ...

Pay It Forward DVD
$9.69 A visually beautiful film, ONE NIGHT WITH THE KING depicts the biblical tale of a Jewish peasant, Hadassah (Tiffany Dupont), and her journey to become the legendary Queen Esther. Her parents were murdered when she was a young girl and she was taken in by her uncle, Mordecai (John Rhys-Davies); he raised her in Susa, a city of the ancient empire of Persia. Hadassah--beautiful, intelligent and passionate--was summoned among many of the kingdom's virtuous young women to be groomed as a possible new queen for the powerful and handsome King Xerxes (Luke Goss). Hadassah hides her Jewish heritage under advisement from her uncle, and changes her name to Esther. She impresses the King. He falls in love with her and chooses her to be his bride, and she becomes Queen of Persia. Soon after, Hamen the Agagite (James Callis), the King's Prime Minster, proclaims his goal of wiping out all the Jews of Persia, and he convinces the King to approve the plan. It is up to Queen Esther to announce her Jewish ...
