Standard Screen; Soundtrack English Based on Frances Hodgson Burnett's popular children's book and stage play, THE LITTLE PRINCESS features one of Shirley Temple's most memorable performances and her first Technicolor appearance. Temple stars as Sara Crewe, a little rich girl who is enrolled in a prestigious boarding school while her father goes off to fight in the Boer War in Africa. When Sara receives news of her father's death, the school's ruthless headmistress makes the newly penniless girl a galley slave and forces her to live in a cold, dark garret. Sara, who refuses to accept that her father has died, escapes from the school to search for him, believing that if she can find him, her tragic days of abuse and poverty may be over. The production values in this enthralling riches-to-rags-to-riches Victorian drama are lavish, and the plot and performances are deftly handled by director Walter Lang, but it is of course the irresistibly charming Temple who ensures THE LITTLE PRINCESS a lasting place in the hearts of her fans, film lovers, and children of all ages. Little Princess film
$10.49 Three screen goddesses--Betty Grable, Lauren Bacall, and Marilyn Monroe--star as golddigging models blessed with fabulous looks but limited brain power. The three blondes pool their resources and conspire to nab millionaire husbands, renting an expensive penthouse to lure in their likely prey. But with Rory Calhoun, Cameron Mitchell, David Wayne, Fred Clark, Alex D'Arcy, and William Powell playing the desired millionaires, the gals are pushed to the end of their wits as they try to decide whom to wed.
Basing his work on two successful stage plays, famed producer and screenwriter Nunnally Johnson's dialogue is fabulous, and scenic views of Manhatten exploit the CinemaScope widescreen aesthetic. Director Jean Negulesco keeps the antics of the remarkable ensemble cast hyped to an outrageous level, which combines perfectly with both the script and the music to create exceptionally entertaining and classic camp. This film is a must-see for fans of Marilyn Monroe, who again asserts the brilliance of her comedic timing as the extremely myopic Pola, a woman who refuses to wear glasses because she fears that they ruin her looks.
Marilyn Monroe, Betty Grable, Lauren Bacall, David Wayne, Rory Calhoun, Cameron Mitchell - Dir:Jean Negulesco Discover Marilyn Monroe's phenomenal comic talent as she leads an outrageous man-hunting scheme in this classic comedy.

| | Singin' In The Rain DVDs (1952) Special Edition; Subtitled
Little Princess DVD
$22.29 "Just about the best Hollywood musical of all time," wrote Pauline Kael about SINGIN' IN THE RAIN.
After years of honing his skills on the vaudeville stage, hoofer Don Lockwood (Gene Kelly) has finally reached the top and become a swashbuckling star of the silent silver screen. Then the self-satisfied celebrity has his confidence shattered when ingenue Kathy Selden (Debbie Reynolds) dismisses film actors as "shadows" without substance. After getting over the insult, he falls hard for her--much to the consternation of his costar, the sexy, selfish Lina Lamont (Jean Hagen), who wants Don all to herself.
But Don has career troubles too. The wild popularity of THE JAZZ SINGER has studios scrambling to change from silent films to talkies, and Lina's shrill voice and Don's stiff acting left the preview audience roaring with laughter. There's only one way to save the movie and their careers: turn THE DUELLING CAVALIER into a musical, with Kathy secretly dubbing ...

| | Mighty Gorga/One Million AC/DC DVD (1969)
Little Princess review
$8.35 Yet another hilariously over-the-top double feature of trashy B-movies is presented here by the looney folks at Something Weird video. 1969's THE MIGHTY GORGA is a comically terrible monster gorilla movie in the spirit of KING KONG but with much shoddier special effects. ONE MILLION AC/DC, which was produced in the same year, is an erotic bit of camp set in the Stone Age and written by famed B-movie "auteur" Ed Wood.
It's the film that makes "King Kong" look like a classic! Meet "The Mighty Gorga" (1969, 84 min.), a goofy-looking (and often cross-eyed) giant gorilla played by a guy in the worst ape suit ever seen in a motion picture! Journey to a Prehistoric Plateau and also meet a tyrannosaurus played, no surprise, by a guy wearing the worst dinosaur suit ever seen in a motion picture. It's a special effects non-spectacle so stupid it's breathtaking! Other creatures include a serpent guarding the Lost Treasure of Bronson Canyon, and such B-movie dinosaurs as Anthony Eisley, Kent Taylor, and Scott Brady. Then the same ...

Little Princess video
$25.09 The comedy world produces a prodigious amount of talent every year, but it often takes years before fastidiously honed routines are ready for public consumption. This often leads to a lonely battle against self-doubt, depression, and critical maulings for many comics, with only strong and highly talented performers surviving against the seemingly insurmountable odds. Host Alan King attempts to answer some of these questions in this fascinating exploration of the art, with a little help from some famous figures who have made the genre what it is today.
Legendary comedian King hosts this intensely revealing series on the serious business of being funny.
