||it's in your reach ........ concentrate|
could go on about this album till you lose the will to live, so I'll just write about the standout tracks. 'Spite & Malice' uses the theme of a card game to mean life. If you're expecting a 2nd 'Nancy Boy', you'll be surprised. I'll leave it up to you to decide if that means pleasantly surprised or not. 'Passive Aggressive' -- this is just wonderful. If you've ever thought of getting a self-help tape, don't bother, just listen to Molko say, "it's in your reach ... / concentrate" .... and relax. Is he telling the listener off or reassuring them? The hidden track, which is credited as 'Black Market Blood' on newer copies (mine isn't) would make a great film soundtrack & Molko's "hear her calling, hear her calling you" will stay with you long after you've listened to it. This seems to be considered as the album where Placebo started to go downhill & become apathetic, but even their sub-par tracks grow on you. Get it .... .?

Placebo continues the tradition of artists like Bowie and the Pixies by being an innovative, creative, and almost completely original band. Georgeous and haunting songs, with some of the greatest lyrics I've ever heard. Black Market Music is probably their best work. Buy this album, you won't regret it.

||i hate to give bad reviews but...|
im sorry this album is just too un orginal and too poppy, though special k, black eyed and heamoglabin are good listeners, it doesnt hold together as an album and is strenuaous too listen to, oh well.

One of the best experiences on CD in a long while. About half the tracks clicked immediately, now I can't even pick my favorites. Everything hangs together--the whole CD is an experience. I wonder about the blank spot between the 2nd bonus track and an unlisted song.

This album is perhaps the darkest recorded by Placebo; most of the songs ("Taste in men" "special k" or "Haemoglobin" being my favorites) are brillant; this is truly classic pop/rock songwriting, in the vein of Pixies. It' s a pitty they' re widely underestimated outside Europe. Go get it, you won't regret it (unless you don't dig good music!).
