| | Break N' Bossa: Chapter 4 CD
The fourth installment of the BREAK N' BOSSA series contains a highly eclectic mix including the throbbing electronica of NuSpirit Helsinki and Flytronic in addition to the Afro-Latin stylings of Gerardo Frisina.
We're at the 4th chapter of the Break n' Bossa series. This journey we started a while back, has now developed into a full voyage taking us to further reaches and visiting new territories. If we compare this chapter with previous ones, this 4th chapter has a deeper approach towards afro-jazz like for Grupo Batuque in "Keyser" re-mixed by Masters at Work, though it has an inclination towards an afro-Latin current with tracks like Gerardo Frisina's "Descarga". What makes these carefully planned journeys particular, is a careful line up, that always includes various solutions for their musical approach. The first track by NuSpirit Helsinki, "Orson" and "Heavy Traffic" by Flytronic, bring an intense electronic vibe to the collection picking more from the break than the bossa. It is once again very hard, if you had to decide, which one to leave out; that is why they are all here together.
This is part of Schema Records BREAK N' BOSSA series.

Break N' Bossa: Chapter 4 music CDs
$7.59 Angela Bofill proved herself extremely adroit at doing Latin, jazz, and R&B with equal finesse on her debut, Angie. Angel of the Night is the highly anticipated sophomore set originally released on GRP when it was distributed on Arista. With such a comfortable style well suited to Bofill's voice, this doesn't veer that far away from the work on the first album. The first track, the immediately classic "I Try," is beautifully sung, dramatic, and offers no false moments. The title track is just as effective in a gentle and lilting way. Angel of the Night's producers David Grusin and Larry Rosen, who also worked on Jon Lucien's ...

| | Avail Over The James CD (1998) Bonus Tracks; Remastered
Break N' Bossa: Chapter 4 music CDs
$12.15 Although Avail turns up the volume a bit on Over the James, it can't take away from the stagnation that has settled in after four very similar-sounding albums. The group's musical chops are as strong -- if not better -- than ever, particularly on tracks like "Sanctuary 13" and "August," and lead singer Tim Barry has never sounded as angry as on "S.R.O." But ultimately, Over the James is for loyalists only. ~ Brian Raftery
Finishing off Jade Tree's 2006 Avail reissue series, 1998's Over the James appears repackaged in the new millennium with rare photos and a sprinkle of liner note commentary. Also appended are four additional tracks, taken from their 1997 split release The Fall of Richmond with (Young) Pioneers and two compilations: Return of the Read Menace (1999) and the Trustkill Embrace tribute album Land of Greed...World of Need (1994). Building upon the foundation laid on 4AM Friday, Over the James boasts an even louder and tighter band with more mature songwriting. A personal favorite for many Avail fans, the album is probably the most fully realized of the ones reissued in 2006, and it owes much to the band's roots in ...
