Teen Town USA, Vol. 1 CD

All but impossible to not be confused with the identically titled three-volume series released by Lost Gold between 1999 and 2001, Yeaah's Teen Town U.S.A., Vol. 1 basically shuffles the same songs offered on the first volume of Lost Gold's series and improves the artwork and overall package. As advertised on the cover, songs by Jerry Landis (later known as Paul Simon), the Nighthawks (featuring Buddy Holly on guitar), and Kenny & the Cadets (Beach Boys connections) are featured. Other contributions come from Johnny Rivers ("Your First and Last Love"), Cliff Rivers ("True Lips"), Terry Wayne ("School Is Out"), and Barry Mann ("Leave Miss U.S.A."). ~ Andy Kellman

With 30 rare and obscure tracks mastered from original 45s, Teen Town USA is comparable to like-minded '50s rock & roll collections on Germany's Buffalo Bop label, but with better-known artists and even a few hits. Bobby Lee Trammell, Ronnie Dawson, Barry Mann, Johnny Rivers, and the Nighthawks (with Buddy Holly on guitar) are all represented, as well as Jerry Landis ("Lone Teen Ranger"), who later became known to the world as Paul Simon. Subtitled "Rare Teen Music of the '50s and '60s," Teen Town USA delivers loads of fun with reasonably good fidelity and brief notes about each of the selections. ~ Greg Adams
