| | Swing Out Sister Kaleidoscope World CD (1989)
Look To The Sky music CDs
$9.79 All songs written by Connell/Drewery except "You On My Mind" (Connell/Drewery/O'Duffy), "Tainted" and "Between Strangers" (Connell/Drewery/Jackson).
After the, er, "Breakout" success of Swing Out Sister's initial releases, co-founder Martin Jackson took a back seat to the contributions of Andy Connell and vocalist Corinne Drewery. With legendary pop songwriter and producer Jimmy Webb providing arrangements, Kaleidoscope World is perhaps as pure a pop album as there could be in the two-dimensional plastic world of the late '80s. The record is chock full of lush, lively arrangements dominated by big, boisterous horns and Drewery's rich, Dusty Springfield-esque vocal. It's not surprising that Swing Out Sister found their biggest audience in Japan; that country's Pizzicato Five draws upon the same honey pot of influences, adding an electronic ...

| | Justin Trevino Before You Say Amen CD (2007)
Look To The Sky CD music
$13.15 Justin Trevino has become of one the brightest traditional Country Music artists in the last decade. He has gained a very large following throughout the Southwest while touring other countries including Sweden and Australia."Before You Say Amen" is the first Country Gospel album from Trevino. It is a project that he had wanted to do for a very long time."I have always loved Country Gospel music," Trevino said from his Texas home. "I wanted to record a Country Gospel album, but my former record label didn't want to have have anything to do with it. After signing with Heart of Texas Records, I asked Tracy Pitcox about doing one featuring the same type of music that I am known for. This is that project. It may be the very best album that I have ever produced."Trevino found a couple of new gospel songs that immediately caught his attention. "Before You Say Amen, the title track, was written by Ron Williams (Leona Williams's son) and Mark Mash. It is a great testimate to prayer in today's modern age. Trevino also recorded another new song that is destined to become a classic in "Heart That Will Never Break Again." "I wanted to include some of the great standards and highlight the fiddle and steel guitar on those songs like"The Old Rugged ...

| | Uncle Woody Sullender Nothing Is Certain But Death CD (2007)
Look To The Sky songs
$10.65 From Sound Projector July 30, 2005 by Ed Pinsent Interesting...an intellectual construct which proposes a kind of melding of traditional Old Timey / Bluegrass music with modernist electronic music. Chicago-based Woody Sullender adopts an appropriate name for said project and brings his banjo into a free improvisatory / art context, with occasional addition of live electronics to great effect. Eugene Chadbourne has done something similar with the banjo in his time, though always with a loopy knowing grin on his face, and was informed mostly by Bluegrass compared to this guy, who seems to have all sorts of other influences.Laying out his wares on 'Commonwealth Edison', the musician shows straight away what a skilled picker he is; it's spiky music, delivered with many nifty 'choppy' effects on each strum. 'I Am In A Consumption' features guest cello playing from Fred Lonberg-Holm, another noted Chicago improviser; it's brilliantly stark, the crisp recording technique allowing each note to stand out and shine forth. Further effective banjo picking methods emerge; muffled strings, rubbed strings, percussive taps, upstrokes ...
| | Shawn Colvin Few Small Repairs CD (1996)
Look To The Sky album
$5.95 "Get Out Of This House" was nominated for a 1997 Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
A FEW SMALL REPAIRS was nominated for a 1997 Grammy for Best Pop Album.
"Sunny Came Home" won the 1998 Grammy Awards for Record Of The Year and Song Of The Year, and was nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
When folk-rock and adult contemporary pop merged in the early '90s to give birth to the adult album alternative radio format, scores of singer-songwriters took the opportunity to bland out for big bucks, shortchanging listeners in the process. Shawn Colvin has emerged as the savior of AAA, bringing classy arrangements and high-quality songwriting to the mix, and inspiring a legion of imitators along the way.
Colvin's voice is a supple, elastic thing, bending notes and phrases to suit the idiosyncratic elan that is her trademark. Her songs combine ingratiating pop sensibilities with incisive, often poetic lyrics. Together with producer/guitarist John Leventhal, Colvin has created a sonic landscape that seduces the listener with rich, atmospheric washes of guitar and unabashedly pretty horn and string arrangements, while never obscuring the simple melodic statements that are the foundation of the songs. A FEW SMALL REPAIRS is the ideal pop confection; light and sweet on the surface, with a thick, chewy center.
This 1996 release not only went platinum, it won two Grammy awards for singer/songwriter Shawn Colvin. Clearly her breakthrough album, A FEW SMALL REPAIRS combines folk with elegant pop and a healthy dose of Texas rock. The ...
