Montreux album
$15.05 With The Fall, Norah Jones completes the transition away from her smooth cabaret beginnings and toward a mellowly arty, modern singer/songwriter. Jones began this shift on 2007's Not Too Late, an album that gently rejected her tendencies for lulling, tasteful crooning, but The Fall is a stronger, more cohesive work, maintaining an elegantly dreamy state that's faithful to the crooner of Come Away with Me while feeling decidedly less classicist. Some of this could be attributed to Jones' choice of producer, Jacquire King, best-known for his work with Modest Mouse and Kings of Leon, but King hardly pushes Norah in a rock direction; The Fall does bear some mild echoes of Fiona Apple or Aimee Mann in ballad mode, but its arrangements never call attention to themselves, the way that some Jon O'Brien productions do. Instead, the focus is always on Jones' ...
| | Harry Connick, Jr Your Songs CD (2009)
Montreux CD music
$10.99 Much like 2001's SONGS I HEARD and 2004's ONLY YOU, 2009's YOUR SONGS finds vocalist/pianist Harry Connick, Jr. coming up with an urbane, passionate set of American popular standards and contemporary pop classics that he both performs and orchestrates. While his previous recordings leaned toward the classicist side--ONLY YOU featured songs of the '50s and '60s--YOUR SONGS features a more eclectic mix of standards and pop songs, with Connick's own lush orchestration lending an overall aesthetic of languid romanticism. To this end, Connick turns Billy Joel's "Just the Way You Are" into a kind of Herb Alpert-inspired '60s pop nugget and, conversely, the Beatles' 1964 classic "And I Love Her" gets a kind of '70s Latin lounge feel with classical guitar flourishes. However, Connick isn't only concerned with reworking tunes in unexpected ways; on the contrary, longtime fans of Connick's swinging neo-crooner vocals will be pleasantly surprised by his straightforward takes on "The ...

Montreux album
$6.55 Principally recorded at Capitol Studios, The Hollywood Bowl, Hollywood, California from August 15, 1956 - August 28, 1957. Includes liner notes by William Ruhlmann.

Montreux album

| | Dance A Little Closer CD (1995)
Montreux CD music
$27.05 The shortest running music ever co-authored by Alan Jay Lerner, Dance a Little Closer closed the night it opened (and was referred to derisively by Broadway wags as "Close a Little Faster"). That was probably a bit unfair, as the cast album reveals -- perhaps it was a bit ahead of its time, a musical adaptation of Robert E. Sherwood's Idiot's Delight being ahead of a pop culture curve that would turn such '30s-based properties as Chicago into mega-hits on-stage 15 years later, and the book was weak, as most critics pointed out at the time. But the Charles Strouse score ...

| | Dem Southernfolkz The Message CD (2008)
Montreux album
$13.89 In 2001, Thomas Benjamin ('Big Ben') and Rudy Jackson ('Kinfolke Jack') met at Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas. After sharing similar passions for music, they began a journey which led to the formation of Dem Southernfolkz ('DSFZ'). Focused on producing and promoting quality music, DSFZ set to blend hip-hop culture with easy sounds of jazz and soul music. Creating music since day one, both Big Ben and Kinfolke Jack were separated with military tours in Iraq. With the passion to make music regardless of location, the duo would send beats and written verses to each other through e-mail. Although Kinfolke Jack finished his official duty earlier than Big Ben, the two continued to make music and even spent a week straight while Big Ben visited the States making music without sleep. Through a mutual connection, the duo met Nathan Wright IV ('Saturday Alridge') and quickly realized the same passion in which BigBen and Kinfolke Jack met ...
