Near the end of his life, Walter Davis, Jr. was starting to get the recognition he long deserved. But this Steeplechase CD turned out to be his swan song, as he died the following year. Accompanied by bassist Santi Debriano and drummer Ralph Peterson, the pianist concentrates primarily on his provocative original works. "Backgammon" initially signals a bit of gospel influence before evolving into a solid but innovative hard bop vehicle, featuring solid solos by all three musicians. "400 Years Ago Tomorrow" also throws a curve with an initial Caribbean influence before taking flight into a furious setting. His most famous composition, "Scorpio Rising," is not just a rehash of earlier recordings but a blistering performance complemented by his rhythm section's intuitive playing. The standards are also worthy of praise. His spacious interpretation of "Skylark" and funky introduction to "Just One of Those Things" (before returning to his hard bop roots with Peterson's crisp brushwork) prove very refreshing. Two bonus tracks were added to the CD reissue, adding to its already considerable value. ~ Ken Dryden Walter Davis, Jr Scorpio Rising Songs | 1. | Backgammon |

Prior to Eric Clapton's pop- and MTV-driven mid-'80s work, he spent the '70s and early '80s playing languid, singer-songwriter soft rock evocative of J.J. Cale and Don Edwards. But Clapton always kept one foot in the blues of his youth. BLUES brings this material together in one place and throughout, Slowhand taps into an inner spirituality that does these blues standards well.
The first disc contains studio recordings that include tributes to many influences including Elmore James ("The Sky Is Crying") and Willie Dixon ("Meet Me [Down At the Bottom]"). Most impressive is a stripped-down version ...

$10.25 A great deal of the Rock n' Roll tradition has to do with the objectification of women. The development of this seems much like the mental development of a young man learning how to deal with women. First we had innocent love. We slowly added subtle hints that it was not so innocent. Then it was blatant innuendo. At some point we were blessed with Cock Rock. Today you would be remiss to miss the just plain blatant visualizations in Hip Hop. For every step we were increasing the objectification and becoming more misogynistic as we went along. True a great deal of this could be perceived as good-natured maybe. But it was time for a reaction. And born was the sensitive narrative of Emo. Emo boy would not take ...

Scorpio Rising CD music
$7.49 More Info Available From SteveBoller ! "It has been an unfortunate side-effect of the modern age that alongside with the creation of marvels like the Internet, we have allowed ourselves to expect a certain amount of technological interference in the music we enjoy. Luckily we have musicians like Steve to help remind us how rewarding a simple melody and honest words can be. Sometimes optimistic, sometimes defeated, Somebody Else offers you a window into the world of backyard jams that we singer/songwriters call home. So this new fangled era isn't all bad, right? At least it gave you the opportunity to find this website and Steves music. Now be quiet and enjoy."-Stephen Covell17 year-old Steve Boller has certainly taken on a great undertaking at a tender age. His debut album, 'Somebody Else', is at a caliber beyond his years. Filled with well-crafted song structures, ear-catching choruses, and verses filled with meaning and aesthetic pleasure for the eardrums, 'Somebody Else' is certainly worth every penny. Recorded in Boller's home with no outside help except for mastering, the 10-song disc has been compared in style to that of popular artists such as Jack Johnson, John Mayer, and Jason Mraz. The CD takes the listener through a whirlwind journey of real, honest emotion, thought, and question. From the irresistible opening riff of 'Give Me a Sign' to the haunting ending of 'Good Night', Steve's first effort leaves the listener hanging on a thread, ready to make the journey once again. Other Reviews"Most seventeen year old musicians are trying to find that special garage that provides the best feel for the music they are playing. Thoughts about being a business savvy musician are something that is at times missed by the younger generation. While youth has traditionally been able to produce decent music throughout the years, finding a young musician that cares first about the quality of the music that he/she is producing and secondly about how to generate an ever growing fan base is something that is at times lost. However, a young musician hailing from New Palestine, Indiana has launched himself into a truly inspiring musical career at only the age of seventeen. Steve Boller has gone out and grabbed the music industry that to many musicians remains aloof and distant and demanded that his music be respected, listened to, and purchased. A solo artist, Boller has produced a phenomenal debut album entitled Somebody Else . This album is Boller's two-fold attempt to create an album that is musically impressive ...
