| | Gerald Wilson Detroit CD (2009)
Sleight Of Hand CD music
$14.29 Detroit comprises a six-composition suite commissioned for the 2009 thirtieth anniversary Detroit International Jazz Festival, played in the studio with musicians from composer/arranger Gerald Wilson's Los Angeles home or New York City area. Curiously, there are no Motor City-based players on the disc, but the themes are based in certain locales from the industrial Midwestern City that has fallen on hard economic times but played a pivotal role in the development of ...

| | Michael Buble It's Time CD (2005)
Sleight Of Hand songs
$10.05 Michael Buble's third major US release (including the mostly live COME FLY WITH ME) stays on message--this young Canadian loves the lush, swaying music of his parents' and grandparents' generations. Buble's albums, however, are much more than mere back-in-the-day exercises. The production and arranging of David Foster (Celine Dion, Josh Groban) is eclectic in a way that firmly places the tunes at the dawn of the 21st century, and, more importantly, Buble possesses the chops and sense of style to re-imagine the adult-contemporary vocal genre in a distinctive manner. In addition ...

| | Leonard Cohen More Best Of CD (1997)
Sleight Of Hand music CDs
$7.59 A best-of that comprises cuts from two studio efforts and a live album? For a lesser artist, the consumer would be well within his rights to cry foul. In Leonard Cohen's case, however, virtually every track he's ever recorded merits anthologizing. MORE BEST OF contains the strongest songs from I'M YOUR MAN and THE FUTURE, two of Cohen's latter-day masterpieces that combine his dark, poetic lyrics with an ironically glossy sonic framework. To add some historical perspective, live versions of early cuts like "Suzanne" are included. The depth (both spiritual and physical) of Cohen's readings here stands in sharp contrast to the original recordings. To rope in the diehard fans, there are two new cuts included, the self-deprecating shuffle "Never Any Good" and a short spoken-word piece, "The Great Event."
Producers include: Leonard Cohen, Michael Robidoux, Gean-Michel Reusser, Rebecca De Mornay, Leanne Ungar.
Engineers include: Roger Guerin, Leanne Unger, Kevin Beauchamp, Ian Terry, Richard ...

| | Maddy Prior Silly Sisters: No More To The Dance CD (1976) (Import) United Kingdom
Sleight Of Hand CD music
$17.15 This was a match made in heaven: Maddy Prior, the sweet-voiced singer for Steeleye Span, and June Tabor, a darker-toned solo performer who was already making a significant name for herself on the British folk scene. The collaboration was blessed by the presence of most of that scene's aristocracy, including guitarists Nic Jones and Martin Carthy, bassist Danny Thompson, and mandolinist Andy Irvine. But the album's most transcendent moments come when Prior and Tabor sing together a cappella, as they do at the beginning of the gentle "Seven Joys of Mary" and the more astringent "Burning of Auchindoon," not to mention the hair-raising "Four Loom Weaver." A few of these songs require a couple of listens before they reveal all of their charms, but all of them are worth the effort. [So artistically, if not commercially, successful was this album that Prior and Tabor reunited ten years later to record the equally fine No More to the Dance under the group name Silly Sisters.] ~ Rick Anderson
The first time June Tabor and Maddy Prior made a duo recording, it was released under their names and was entitled Silly Sisters. ...

| | Maestro Jerard Songs From The Heart CD (2004)
Sleight Of Hand CD music
$21.49 Music has always been a part of Maestro Jerard's life. Born in 1946, his affinity for music was recognized at an early age. Encouraged to explore his talent, he performed in musical theater and opera. His efforts were distinguished with the lead role of Amahl in Carlo Menotti's opera, "Amahl and the Night Visitors."When graduated from high school Jerard entered the University of California at Los Angeles where he furthered his interest in music with the study of musical composition. In his third year Jerard departed the university to join the United States Air Force. But he carried his love of music with him. During his four year enlistment he devoted his free time to the classical guitar, learning basic techniques and discovering the nuances of the instrument.Soon after leaving military service Jerard was married. He started a career, became a daddy and so began a life of commitment. His principal resolution, to be a good and loving husband and father, defined the parameters of his life. As his career progressed he fulfilled that promise. In 1983 he became a mortgage loan officer at a bank, a position he holds today. As his life took shape, Jerard never strayed far from the music he loved. The interest he maintained in the classical guitar, as well as vocal harmony, evolved into a passion. Through intense study and practice, combined with a talent to arrange, compose and transcribe music, the Maestro has created a collection of work which ...
