| | Duran Duran Arena CD Duran Duran Discography of CDs
Recorded live on tour in Australia, the United Kingdom, Japan, Canada, and the United States in 1984.
ARENA's high point is its one studio cut, the Nile Rodgers-produced single "The Wild Boys," a minimalist art-funk song that takes its title from William Burroughs, its found sound/cut-up production from Trevor Horn's Art of Noise, and its Spartan funk-pop groove from Prince. A musical Frankenstein creation, it's also an oddly effective single that was perhaps just slightly too weird for the band's teenybopper following; it was a lesser hit than the band's status would have otherwise signified.
It's that high public standing which created this live document, a recording made at various dates on the band's 1983-84 tour in support of its third album, SEVEN AND THE RAGGED TIGER. Drawing material from all three albums and focusing on hit singles such as "Hungry Like the Wolf" and "Rio," ARENA presents the songs in pristine versions that differ only slightly from the studio cuts.
Though '80s nostalgia was an inevitability, the truth is that some of the most influential voices of that era never went away. The members of Duran Duran had their mortgages paid off long before GREATEST was conceived, so their sincerity in releasing a best of album is not to be doubted. One listen is enough to convince the most forgetful fan that every once in a while, the musical taste of teenage girls is right on the mark.
GREATEST follows the teen heartthrobs from their inspiring early days (the quintessential new wave anthem "Planet Earth," the stylish, more-than-suggestive "Girls On Film") straight through to their later work ("Electric Barbarella," a whirring, modern dance cut). In between, the classic "Hungry Like The Wolf" and the mournful "Save A Prayer" give evidence of the band's mastery of the pop form, while the Bond theme "View To A Kill" and "Notorious" trace their development during the decade with which they are inextricably linked.

Arena album
$10.09 After the initial shock fades, the existence of CHRISTMAS IN THE HEART seems perhaps inevitable. After all, the thing Bob Dylan loves most of all are songs that are handed down from generation to generation, songs that are part of the American fabric, songs so common they never seem to have been written. These are the songs Dylan chooses to sing on CHRISTMAS IN THE HEART, a cheerfully old-fashioned holiday album from its Norman ...

Arena songs
$11.18 Last time around, Shakira touched upon so many styles she couldn't be contained on one album, splitting Oral Fixation in two. This time, she focuses on one sound only: a pulsating electro-disco that crosses all boundaries and welcomes all nationalities. Such concentration behooves Shakira, freeing her to release her inner She Wolf, a wild wacko who's as coo coo as she is carnal. And for as sexy as Shakira is -- crucially, her music is sexy too -- what really gives She Wolf its bite is her inspired nuttiness, how she laments that Matt Damon's not meant for her, and wishes her ex-lover and his new girl a horrible vacation where the room smells and the toilet doesn't flush. "Darling, it is no joke, this is lycanthropy," she sings on the title track with no small trace of humor, and ...

Arena album
$13.75 At times, it was hard to figure out whether Berlin were an average synth pop band trying to carve out their own niche or just a mediocre rock band jumping on the new wave bandwagon. Sure, they had some good singles and radio hits, but as an album band, they left a lot to be desired. Terri Nunn was beautiful and sexy, but it seemed like Berlin wanted to be more than just a commercial band with a hot vocalist: they seemed to be striving for greatness but settled for "that'll do." Unfortunately, they never had a chance to really prove themselves, breaking up after their commercially disappointing ...

$13.09 Helio Sequence BiographyThe Helio Sequence is a band. You can sing along to their music. You can dance to their music. You can even fall in love to their music. You can't really play air guitar to their music though...but that's OK. (You'll have to listen to their music to understand it...I won't waste your time or tickle your fancy with colorful expletives.) AND...The Helio Sequence is not just any normal band (here's the catch)...it's a duo!! This means that there are only two members. (Yes, they perform this way live.) Their names are Brandon Summers and Benjamin Weikel. They're both rather handsome, intelligent, witty, outgoing and artsy young men who are a healthy 22 and 25, respectively. Brandon enjoys reading obscure foreign literature and poetry, playing stringed instruments (even the banjo), and a lot of other nonsense. Benjamin is big into computers, digital instruments, and all the other vices of our modern technological existence. Both young men live in one of the most unanimously agreed upon "cool" places in the United States of America: Portland, OR. Brandon sings (very often screams) and plays guitar (very, very often too loudly) in the band. Benjamin deals in the black magic of sequencing keyboards and he plays the drums to the brink of destruction. The two B's first began making music together during the heady idealism of adolescence. AND...after ...

Known for his gospel singing voice, this Philly vocalist/ songwriter and musician is destining to make his own mark in the world of music. Naming himself Aijaz which means: grateful, is truly grateful to possess a talent which was only giving from up above. His spirit flows through his music and his listeners can feel his message. Inspired by artist such as: Marvin Gaye, Luther Vandross, John Legend, and Alicia Keys Aijaz is truly propose driven. The Future of R&B is here. Shotime One of the hottest young talents to come out of Philly. He's the young man responsible for the creation of most of the hooks on the “SP” label. Shotime continues to show that he knows how to keep to crowd hype with his latest hook for “Club Banga”. First, beginning to write rhymes at the age of nine years old, Shotime had a natural flow. By the age of sixteen Shotime had already won numerous street battles. Nobody around could touch him when it came to spitting nouns and verbs. Coming from the streets of South Philly his rhymes speak of the day to day struggles to get ahead. Refusing to let a destitute environment take him under, Sho uses his craft to stay focus and out of trouble. This man is hungry and wants nothing more than to hear his name spoken in the same sentence as legends he grew up idolizing. Constantly enhancing his versatility ...
