Santo & Johnny: Santo Anthony, Johnny Steven. This features "Sleepwalk" and others by the twosome who carved a niche for themselves by bending notes like rubber bands. Mellow mood music that will fit many sets and situations. Besides many originals, they also delight on popular tunes like "A Thousand Miles Away," "Over the Rainbow," and "Crying in the Chapel." ~ Andrew Hamilton

Replacement album I am delighted to have finally to be able to replace my long lost, wornout album. Ever song is a delight to listen to. Their sound is enchanting and relaxing. I would put it on my record player and fall to sleep easily on those restless nights. Submitted by sassycorners (Arizona) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

A Rare Find For Nostalgia! I bought this for a friend who had been searching for this particular song by these two artists. Her search had been lengthy and was she thrilled to know it was available here. The song, 'Sleep Walking', had been her goal and here it was! I fell in love with it and did recognize it from a number of years ago. The smooth playing of guitar through out this CD brought many nostalgic feelings of other songs such as Tenderly. Their ability to blend sounds with each number performed is remarkable. Whether for just listening or dancing it proves to be great. Submitted by Ableconpnj (Arvada, CO) Was This Review Helpful? Excellent CD!!! As much as I loved Sleep Walk, Tear Drop and In The Still of the Night the "boys" outdid themselves with Lazy Day, another they wrote themselves. If these 4 songs were the only songs on the CD it would be worth the price. But there are 20 more to go with them. Submitted by downeast (Saginaw, MI) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Residents Animal Lover CD (2005)
Best Of Santo & Johnny
$17.15 Includes a bound book. Residents: Molly Harvey, Carla Fabrizio, Nolan Cook. Additional personnel: Kalonica McQuesten, Jen Tait, Cynthia Vazquez, Eric Oberthaler, R. Bhakti Klein, Isabelle Barbier (vocals); Anna Reynolds (violin); Greg Kelly (harmonica); Chris Grady (trumpet). The reigning kings of the concept album are back with Animal Lover, another very dense though not completely impenetrable offering from the Residents. They seem to be continuing with the themes of mortality that surfaced in Demons Dance Alone, but this time viewed through the observations and relationships between humans and animals. Each song is accompanied by a written text (in addition to the lyrics), that sketches the scene and characters of the song. There seems to be an overall structure to the work as a whole because groups of songs are separated from each other by brief instrumentals. There's a general malaise permeating Animal Lover, but each of the "sets" of songs presents its own moods and emotions (one set is more menacing and confrontational, one set very sad and sympathetic, etc.). As has been the case for decades now, the Residents have a knack for exposing the dark underbelly of the human condition, but this time it's tempered with some surprisingly empathetic moments. "Inner Space" deals with a woman watching her father die in a hospital (the story explained through the eyes of a mouse, but sung by the daughter) and "The Cat" seems to be about a mother and son and their changed relationship both to each other and the family cat following the son's absence, perhaps due to a war. There's alot more going on in these songs and the way they're arranged, but it will take multiple listens to begin to decode it. Musically, they've added some very organic sounds to their creepy synth stylings, adding lots of acoustic bass, harmonica and violin to the processed sounds of electric guitar and keyboards. There's also a fairly extensive use of chimes, gongs, and gamelan. The "singing Resident" has a diminished role as they utilize a broader palette of voices, including a couple excellent performances by Molley Harvey. There is also an additional disc included, where they take various elements from the album proper and come up with something akin to a dance remix disc, but bear in mind what that could mean given that it's a Residents project. It's really quite amazing how they continue to turn out intelligent, thought-provoking and thoroughly original material time and time again. As with any Residents album or project, it sure as hell won't appeal to all tastes, but close attention given by open-minded listeners ...
| | Johnny Dowd Cemetary Shoes CD (2004)
Best Of Santo & Johnny
$11.69 Tall tales of adulterers, convicts, cross-dressers and church-going sinners unravel themselves over a soundtrack of rockabilly, blues, and country. Guitar Magazine. UKAmericana's psycho...wonderfully warped... 4 stars! MOJO. UKHis cracked larynx, jagged guitar & spooky organ eking out gothic tales laced with black humour. Time Out London. UKOn the back road to Hell's front door, Johnny Dowd is the point when you know there's no turning back. His tangled cobweb of dark tales bursting with the debris of life's lost dreams, broken hearts and everything left behind by sinners on the run. Johnny Dowd albums are like a variety show of death, despair, and mutual suffering... rendered with a sly humour, the kind of wry smile you see through the executioner's mask as the clock strikes midnight. Johnny Dowd's 50 year overnight success story is already folklore. In 1997, recording after hours in ...
| | Stereolab Oscillons From The Anti-Sun CDs (2005) With DVD; Box Set
Best Of Santo & Johnny
$19.75 This box set contains 3 CDs with with 35 songs, 28 of which were previously unreleased in the US, plus a DVD with rare videos and UK TV performances. The CD tracks were culled from eight EPs previously only available as imports. The first pressing includes a limited edition sticker set of early EP album art.
Intitial pressings of this release include a limited edition sticker set. Stereolab: Laetitia Sadier, Tim Gane. The three-disc, one-DVD mini-box set Oscillons From the Anti-Sun is not part of Stereolab's ongoing Switched On series, which rounds up the stray singles, EPs, and B-sides, but it's easy to see how the casual observer might think it's the fourth installment in the series. Instead, this 35-track box set contains material previously released on British and European CD singles and EPs between 1993 and 2000. Oscillons is not limited to featuring only the B-sides: such familiar A-sides as "Jenny Ondioline," "The Noise of Carpet," "Ping Pong," and "Cybele's Reverie" are here next to such non-LP cuts as "Fluorescences," as well as a host of B-sides, some of which were featured on the 1998 Switched On comp, Aluminum Tunes. Frustratingly, the EPs are neither presented in their original running order, nor is the music presented chronologically. Instead, the three discs jump around from EP to single, from year to year, ...
