This is one of Chris Spedding's strongest albums. It arrived four years after his equally impressive ENEMY WITHIN and contains 10 originals and a cover of Mose Allison's "Parchman Farm." CAFE DAYS, like its predecessor, is filled with sly rhythmic tricks. The songs seem rather straightforward, and it's with repeated listenings that the subtle powers really emerge. This is also perhaps his best-sounding work, with credit going to Steve Berlin (of Los Lobos) and Mark Linnet.
Strong selections include the catchy "Put It on Hold" (which sounds like a cross between Mark Knopfler, David Bowie, and Dave Edmunds, and features Southside Johnny on backing vocals) and the characteristically driving title song. The set closes with the gorgeous "Portobello," a song that perfectly captures all of Spedding's allure, from the guitar tone and ensemble interplay, to his own casually impassioned singing.
The guitar wizard's only LP of the 1990's shows him in fine form, covering luminaries like Mose Allison, The Demics and his own original material. Spedding's Cv reads like a who's who of rock royalty: he has played for Elton John, John Cale, Brian Eno, Bryan Ferry, Pete Townshend, Marianne Faithfull, Tom Waits, Paul McCartney, Willie DeVille, Robert Gordon and more. This reissue includes 6 bonus tracks, including a duet with Pretender's Chrissie Hynde, 'Hey Little Girl'.
Includes six bonus tracks.
Personnel: Chris Spedding (vocals, guitar, bass); Steve Berlin (soprano saxophone, keyboards, percussion); Tony Garnier (bass), Gary Ferguson, Bobby Chouinard (drums); Brenda Lee Eager, Pat Carrington, Southside Johnny (background vocals).
Producers: Steve Berlin, Mark Linnet, Chris Spedding, Tom Treumuth, Shawn Pilot.
Musician (4/93, p.93) - "...exudes confidence with every well-placed note..." Audio Magazine (3/93, p.88) - "...his guitar playing is brilliant, as usual, and he has become a better songwriter....CAFE DAYS [is] a fair embodiment of his rock & roll attitude and guitar playing..." Cafe Days album
$9.58 Susan Boyle's grand unveiling on Britain's Got Talent was with a song from Les Miserables - the very song that lends this album its title -- and if she could become an international sensation based on a show tune standard, there's no reason for her to change her approach on her debut, since that's the sound that made her a star. Plus, a large part of Boyle's appeal is that she's a middle-aged woman recalling a bygone era when there were singers that appealed to an adult audience by offering soft, stately versions of pop hits and standards. That time was the late `60s and early `70s, and apart from a rather faithful version of Madonna's "You'll See," I Dreamed a Dream could very well have been released all those years ago, ...

Cafe Days songs
$9.58 Like the HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL franchise, GLEE became more than a TV show when several of its songs cracked the Hot 100, including the number four hit "Don't Stop Believing." That song kicks off this soundtrack, the first in a series of albums cataloging the music performed by the show's cast. Not all GLEE members are created equal--some cast mates are far better actors than singers--but this soundtrack has enough star power to keep things trucking along, especially when powerhouse alto Lea Michele ...
| | Nirvana Bleach CD (1989) Deluxe; Deluxe Edition
Cafe Days album
$12.78 With a sludgy, chainsaw guitar sound that owes as much to early Black Sabbath as to Kurt Cobain's heroes The Melvins, whose drummer puts in an appearance here, Nirvana emerges from Seattle's underground scene as standard-bearers of a style that embraces the anger and energy of punk alongside the thick, muddy sonic attack favored by early '70s proto-metal bands. Cobain's lyrics are fueled by outrage and self-loathing, combining literary flair with a direct, visceral quality that makes him a viable candidate for the John-Lennon-of-Gen X award.
Nirvana's debut album showcases what sounds more like a force of nature than a rock band. The unrelenting ...

$38.59 Japanese edition with two bonus tracks: "One by One" and "Grow Up."
Serving as an answer to the plethora of American-born, third- and fourth-generation pop-punk bands that include Fenix TX and Riddlin' Kids comes Simple Plan, a Montreal-based quintet who packed their debut with plenty of anthems steeped in adolescent angst trimmed with plenty of shout-along-choruses, sweet harmonies, and unadulterated hooks. The album title hints at the band's ...
