Their best one.
Crown of Creation was the best album put out by Jefferson Airplane -- and it withstands the passing of time quite well. Listening to the album for the first time after a 25 hiatus what strikes me is how contemporary some of the pieces sound and how good Grace Slick's voice and songwriting skills are. Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Cassidy are at their best and the arrangements are tight, although minor deficiencies in the production leaves some of the instrumentation sounding a bit thin. Not so with Grace's voice which through the magic of digital technology sounds as full and moving as ever. A bonus is an extra track with Grace Slick performing a Zappaesque piece with Frank Zappa.

Empire falls to chamber music
The best Airplane album? Maybe. Succinct and heartfelt. I remember reading a review in High Fidelity,(never kind to the bands of the day) in '68 saying the band sounded like they'd been playing together for years. Amen. Greasy Heart may be my favorite on this album. But, then there's the album's title song. Too much.
