Combining hardcore punk and heavy metal with a very politically incorrect world-view, The Icarus Line presents their debut album, MONO, where their opinions on the working world ("Please Fire Me"), pet care ("Feed A Cat To Your Cobra"), and spiritual fulfillment ("Rape Of The Holy Mother") are set to pounding, shredding, take-no-prisoners abandon.
Recorded at Messenger's and Rotund Rascal Studios, Hollywood, California in 2000.
The Icarus Line: Joel Cardamone, Jeff Watson, Aaron North, Alvin Deguzman, Lance Arnao.

| | Albert Ayler Love Cry CD (1967)
Mono
$12.49 LOVE CRY was inspired by the death, one year earlier due to liver failure, of legendary tenor man John Coltrane. LOVE CRY, a musical homage to Coltrane, attempts to pick up where Coltrane's ASCENSION left off. This release is an eccentric, mostly rubato (without ...
| | Modest Mouse Good News For People Who Love Bad News CD (2004)
Mono
$9.39 The Dirty Dozen Brass Band offers the opening fanfare for Modest Mouse's sixth full-length, GOOD NEWS FOR PEOPLE WHO LIKE BAD NEWS, a fitting intro for the outfit's most majestic record to date. On their prior major-label recordings, the (formerly) indie icons opted for wandering, spacey arrangements to accompany Isaac Brock's magnificently obtuse poetics. GOOD NEWS revives the immediacy of the band's earlier releases, but furthers the production values (without too much polish), and out pours some of the most commanding pop-rock imaginable.
The first single off of GOOD NEWS was the wonderfully catchy "Float ...
| | Interpol Antics CD (2004)

$11.99 The title of Interpol's second album, ANTICS, may conjure up images of carefree adventure, but anyone familiar with the New York City band's brooding post-punk sound knows that there's nothing lighthearted about their music. ...
| | Built To Spill You In Reverse CD (2006)
Mono
$13.69 Doug Martsch and his bandmates in Built to Spill have delivered a unique dose of engaging and smartly constructed indie rock with nearly every record they've made, and 2006's YOU IN REVERSE is no exception. Still marked by Martsch's winding vocal melodies and, especially, his explosive, ever-imaginative guitar heroics, the album equals, ...
| | Them Crooked Vultures CD (2009)
Mono
$11.19 Often, supergroups wind up dominated by one particular personality - think Eric Clapton in Derek & the Dominos, Jack White in the Raconteurs -- which makes the egalitarianism of Them Crooked Vultures all the more remarkable. Of course, when it comes down to it, it's a group ...

| | Vitamin String Quartet String Quartet Tribute To Marilyn Manson CD (2003)
Mono
$13.29 Many of the Vitamin label's string tributes are successful because of the strong melodies inherent in the work of a particular artist. The String Quartet Tribute to Marilyn Manson functions on a much more primal level. After the melodramatic growl and more shocking visual elements of Manson's music are stripped away, what remains is a devotion to showmanship in an almost classical sense. Parlor entertainment, minstrel shows, vaudeville, Bela Lugosi -- these are the elements of Manson's act that these arrangements for violin, viola, cello, and bass bring to the surface. "The Beautiful People" -- perhaps the best representation of his sound -- is here transformed into a bitter, unsettling masterpiece. It's like watching a mirror shatter in slow motion. For its portion of the album, the unfortunately named Angry String Orchestra plays things relatively straight, but does add programming and samples to ...
| | James Chance Live Aux Bains Douches CD (1980)
Mono
$14.59 James Chance & The Contortions: James Chance; Ginger Lee (vocals); Al Mac Dowell (bass instrument); Richard Harrisson (drums); Patrick Geoffrois, Lorenzo Wyche, Fred Wells.
Originally released via a French label in 1980 soon after its recording, and getting a long overdue domestic issue in 2004 as part of the ZE label's reactivation, Paris 1980 Live Aux Bains Douches acts as a counterpart to the ROIR Live in New York/White Cannibal set, recorded around the same period. With a different set list to the NYC tape, as well as much clearer sound, Live Aux Bains Douches, recorded at the Paris venue of that name in front of a loudly appreciative crowd, has plenty of snarling passion from Chance and company, but also the same sense of control and skill that makes his early albums so gripping. Blasting off with the astonishing reworking of Michael Jackson's "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough" -- at once recognizable, danceable and screwed up, especially when Chance takes over on sax towards the end -- the show varies between similarly devolved covers and takes on originals. One easily gets the sense of how Chance and his band concentrated on balancing out ...
