Two of Falconer's three members are alumni of Swedish black/Viking metal outfit Mithotyn, but Falconer is a lot more than merely Mithotyn Mark 2. The self-titled debut boasts a more pronounced power metal slant and displaces the mother-band's dark Nordicisms in favor of touches of Celtic folk. At times this makes Falconer sound like Jethro Tull gone heavy metal, but when they let rip, their compact, thunderous attack, strong melodic sense, sense of drama, and Matthias Blad's distinctive vocals (pitched lower than you'd expect for a work in this genre) are a force of nature. Lyrically Falconer is about what you'd expect from an album which has a horseback rider straight out of Tolkien on its sleeve: dungeons and dragons and sword and sorcery. But then you don't listen to Falconer for their lyrics. When the Iron Maiden-gone-bonkers majesty of "Heresy in Disguise," "Mindtraveller," and "Entering Eternity" kicks in, Falconer can sound better than just about anyone else in their weight category. ~ Leslie Mathew

Masterful Medieval Metal Based on sound samples here and at CDNow, I ordered all three of Falconer's CDs on a whim from CDUNiverse and must say that I'm quite glad I did. All three are great, but the debut CD is by far the best of the the flock. These guys have a sound and attitude that immediately sets them apart from the D&D-Dungeonmasters-with-guitars sound of so many others in the swords-and-sorcery metal genre. The lyrics are delivered with an authority and seriousness that makes you almost believe these guys are channeling the long-dead spirits of of the past. Most of all, these guys committed some fantastic guitar sounds to tape. Big, beefy, ballsy, and unprocessed. Symphonically inclined melodic metal practicioners could learn a lot from the spare production techniques of this disc. For fans of the genre-- and for students of truly great hard rock/metal guitar tone-- I can't recommend this CD highly enough. Submitted by Timothy Truman (Lancaster, Pa) Was This Review Helpful? The Power Of "FALCONER"! This band rips and tears through this CD! Excellent musically! The singer is excellent but I wish he would put more of the rougher side of emotion into his singing. Submitted by robert.whitney3 (Lancaster, PA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Hammerfall Crimson Thunder CD (2002)
Falconer music CDs
$13.29 Hammerfall's grandiose heavy metal posturing only narrowly avoids the type of self-parody exhibited by Manowar (for that matter, the bandmembers' outfits are only slightly less ridiculous than Manowar's swords-and-loincloths look). But fans of the genre probably won't care -- the band performs its soaring power metal anthems with spirit, dedication, and heroic execution on Crimson Thunder. This is pure classicism here; Hammerfall devotedly adheres to the genre guidelines of '80s power metal, without any attempts toward innovation. Includes an inspired cover version of Chastain's obscure "Angel of Mercy" and a rather pointless take on Kiss' already overdone "Detroit Rock City." ~ Andy Hinds
2002 album includes one exclusive bonus track, a cover of the KISS classic 'Detroit Rock City'. Nuclear Blast.

| | Brainstorm Soul Temptation CD (2003)
Falconer songs
$8.09 Power metal doesn't get much heavier or more aggressive than Germany's Brainstorm. Melding traditional metal songwriting aesthetics with new millenium production values to pummeling effect, the group steadily built its reputation over the course of four increasingly accomplished albums, blazing a path to 2003's arguable career-best Soul Temptation. On standout tracks like "Highs Without Lows," "The Leading," and "To the Head," Torsten Ihlenfeld and Milan Loncaric's muscular riffing handily offsets the ample keyboards provided by guest player Michael Rodenberger, assuring interesting nuances and diverse textures without watering anything down. They come close to losing the thread on the strangely Spanish speaking "Nunca nos Rendimos" and the unusually synth-heavy "Fading," but the ensuing three-song "Trinity of Lust" suite recovers the original momentum with anthemic sonic-scapes, near-progressive rock fervor, and -- most important of all -- a slew of memorable power chords. ...

| | Napalm Death Leaders Not Followers CD (2000) Import
Falconer music CDs
$16.29 With LEADERS NOT FOLLOWERS, metal/hardcore heavyweight outfit Napalm Death joins the ranks of Slayer and Metallica in releasing an EP of cover songs, taking this premise in an even more extreme direction. While Metallica brought songs by bands such as Budgie and Killing Joke to a metal mainstream audience, Napalm Death pays tribute to underground hardcore, grindcore, metal, and punk acts, some of which saw the legendary tape trading phenomenon of the '80s as their only means of distribution.
LEADERS NOT FOLLOWERS spans the globe in its nostalgic trek, from Italy's Raw Power, through Toronto's Slaughter (not to be confused with the hair metal band of the same name), to little-known Pentagram from Chile. The centerpiece of the set is "Nazi Punks Fuck Off, " by the Dead Kennedys, re-recorded especially for this essential collection.
1999 EP from the Godfathers of Grindcore, their first release for the Dream Catcher. Contains six tracks, all covers of classic punk & rock classics by the likes of Dead Kennedys (including 'Nazi Punks Fuck Off'), Repulsion, Death, etc. 1999 release. Standard jewelcase.

| | Lil' KeKe Don't Mess Wit Texas CD (1997) Reissue
Falconer album
$9.49 Lil' Keke's debut album, Don't Mess Wit Texas, is an entertaining, bass-heavy gangsta record. Like most of his Southern-based contemporaries, Lil' Keke spends more time working a groove than with his lyrics, which makes Don't Mess Wit Texas sound like a party record, not a hardcore mission statement. And that's not a bad thing, since he has more rhyming skill and personality ...

| | L Rain Out Of Chaos Comes... CD (1996)
Falconer music CDs
$6.69 Have you ever had a lucid, slightly scary dream that was so intriguing that you avoided waking in order to prolong the warped pleasure? L.Rain's impressive six-track debut captures that fuzzy, fascinating feeling.Opener Long Cold Winter, begins with gentle, meticulous acoustic guitar chiming before her portentous, languid vocals slither right up alongside the msuic. The tempo and tension patiently build until your senses are taken over by the heady and strangely comforting din.L.Rain's penchant for deftly melding her emotive, textural vocals with the guitar-centered backdrop is evident throughout the album and secures the listener's complete immersion into the songs. The approach works just was well for the airy driftings of Free, which is a lovely, four-minute heartbreak, as it does for Widow's Peak, a song that cuts to the core with its disquiet confessions.
