$39.95 After releasing a collection of Snoop outtakes plus their "Re-Lit" version of Dr. Dre's The Chronic, the WIDEawake Entertainment group continued their unleashing of Death Row Records vault with their most ambitious project yet. The Ultimate Death Row Collection kicks off with a disc full of hits from the infamous West Coast label's heyday. With "Gin & Juice" (Snoop Dogg), "Nuthin' But a "G" Thang" (Dr. Dre), "I Ain't Mad at Cha" (2Pac), "Regulate" (Warren G.), and a slew of others, it's a whirlwind of vital G-Funk hits and West Coast classics that finishes on a high note, the fan favorite "Afro Puffs" (Lady of Rage). Disc two and three are where things get interesting, as a series of unreleased and rare tracks present an alternative-reality version of Death Row. From the LBC Crew's ominous "Six Shooter" to Soopafly's underappreciated party cut "This Type of Flow," the collection makes the Row seem much more active and diverse than most will remember. Add to that undiscovered gems like Kurupt throwing some beef Too Short's way ("Everybody Needs to Slow Down") Danny Boy delivering a prime G-Funk ballad ...

| | Caleb Klauder Sings Out CD (2000)
Hits music CDs
$11.35 Sings Out is the first solo release by Caleb Klauder. This record was produced by long time friend and collaborator Luther Russell. His songs have been compared to those of Steve Earle, Bob Dylan and Neil Young. This recording showcases Caleb's refreshing songwriting style and unique voice, as well as his talent as a mandolin player. On Sings Out Caleb shows his various musical influences starting with rock music and branching out into traditional and old time. This record is tied together with Caleb's rich and powerful voice. Caleb Klauder is also a songwriter and vocalist for the band Calobo."Caleb Klauder's first solo release is nothing short of Outstanding! Four stars!" - JoAnna Kasper - The Oakland Tribune“ For everyone trying to find a new name that's worth listening to, this is it. Caleb Klauder, we're keeping an eye on you.” - Roots Town Magazine"Former Calobo co-leader Caleb Klauder…turns out to be a…singer-songwriter with a rich country-flavored voice that sounds like Townes Van Zandt one minute and Doug Sahm the next. His simple (but not simpleminded) honkytonk ditties could easily coax half the bar into that city cowboy shuffling-waltz thing they call dancing these days." – Willamette Week "Klauder has fashioned a solo debut album that has plenty of his old band's melodic ease and unassuming personability, but also an admirable lean feel and bit of grit." - The Oregonian"Sings Out (Padre), a beautiful collection of Dylan-esque songs showcasing his rich voice, musical prowess and imaginative lyrics…” - Seattle City SearchCaleb Klauder has assembled an all-star 5 piece band to back ...

| | Katrina & The Waves Katrina & The Waves/Waves CD (1985) (Import) United Kingdom
Hits CD music
$18.29 This twofer brings a pair of albums by the sunshine pop group Katrina & the Waves onto one disc. The set features the group's infectious breakthrough single "Walking on Sunshine."
Instead of recording a new batch of songs for their major-label debut, Katrina and the Waves elected to redo ten songs from their first two albums (given the criminal lack of dissemination these two fine platters apparently received, this decision made a lot of sense). All were re-recorded in an aggressive power-pop style; surprisingly, most all these fine songs hold up extremely well under this approach. A few of these tunes, notably "Going Down to Liverpool" and "Walking on Sunshine," lose a bit of their original sparkle and purity as a result -- but just as one cannot obliterate the taste of a great hunk of prime rib with a little sauce, so too one cannot ruin these amazing songs by adding a little extra oomph. Other tunes gain surprising virtues this way. "Red Wine and Whisky" and "Do You Want Crying" [sic] become desperately driven and urgent tuneful rockers, while "Game of Love" transforms into a rollicking party platter of the first magnitude. And "Cry for Me" and "The Sun Won't Shine" regenerate as blueslike shouting numbers of apocalyptic intensity. This great album is an essential purchase, especially since the two Attic Records releases that precede it seem to be impossible to find ...
| | Oil CD (2003)
Hits music CDs
$12.25 All the songs on this release from Chicago's Thick label were recorded with a mobile unit inside an ancient, sputtering oil-blending factory on the city's South Side. As I-55 roared outside, and the factory itself made, well, factory noises, the bands launched into their material without the need for studio trickery or production hijinks. Oil is 17 songs of raw, viscous punk, hardcore, and emo. Standouts include Alkaline Trio's "Old School Reasons," Rise Against's "Gethsamane," and Lawrence Arms' "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been." Of course, there are a few stinkers; every compilation has them. In this case, the Owls' avant punk seems a bit out of place inside the muscular depths of the makeshift recording studio. But it's a brief misstep. Oil will certainly appeal to fans of Midwestern punk and emo, and Thick itself deserves credit for the creativity behind the project. ~ Johnny Loftus
