Grand Tier - Rossini: L'Assedio Di Corinto / Schippers, Sills, Horne, Etc Music Grand Tier - Rossini: L'Assedio Di Corinto / Schippers, Sills, Horne, Etc Classical Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) Voices in their Prime.....so worth listening to! In one of Rossini's less performed work...L'Assedio di Corinthe, Sills and Horne put out all the stops and trills. This recording displays two actors/singers
whom I have never heard singing together in a recorded opera. What a treat.......
Ms.Horne, a well known Rossinian singer,
captivates with her alluring delta-tones; it is Ms.Sills who puts her talents here to surprisingly melodic heights.....and together they make beautiful music.
The other mentionable voice in this opera is that of Franco Bonisolli, who also surprises with wonderful tones.
And let's not forget Thomas Schippers, the conductor, who gives the lead singers great direction with the La Scala forces.
If you are unfamiliar with this opera, and most are, this opera with same cast and conductor is marketed under the "Grand Tier" Opera D'Oro label which has a detailed libretto. A Great Listen! Submitted by crs713 (Westchester Cty, NY, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Grand Tier - Rossini: L'Assedio Di Corinto / Schippers, Sills, Horne, Etc
$17.15 The title of this television-advertised compilation may be arrogant, but then the tango is not a dance for the shy and retiring. Whether or not it is, as it claims, The Best Tango Album in the World, Ever!, the two-disc set, containing 30 tracks and running a little less than an hour and a half, does feature some major performers of the music, notably Carlos Gardel, renowned as the father of the tango, heard performing "Volver" and the concluding vocal version of "Mi Buenos Aires Querido," ...

$9.89 Frank Wallace, classical guitar, composerNancy Knowles, soprano"In over 25 years of writing about music on recordings and in concerts, I have rarely been as captivated and enchanted by any item as this new CD from Duo LiveOak, a new - to me - ensemble established in 1976... This is a first-rate chamber music duo with a new and refreshing twist. Its artists are steeped in early music, and Wallace's songs and duets, deftly accompanied, evoke memories of our distant cultural past, ever so gently wrapped in occasional quasi-contemporary enhancements... The CD's only major drawback is its brevity, for it ends sooner than any reasonable person who hears it would wish...Go for it!"John W. Lambert, Classical Voice North Carolina, March 2004"Meet Frank Wallace. He composes, sings, plays a formidable classical-romantic guitar and lute, and produces exquisite-sounding recordings. And Nancy Knowles. She sings, writes poems and sometimes lyrics, makes very arty photographs, and designs promotional material. (She's also very nice...) Together, they perform as Duo LiveOak and their new CD called Woman of the Water (songs written by Frank, of course) is terrific. Their repertory spans the ages from medieval to contemporary, often featuring Wallace's own works and arrangements, which sound like what you imagine John Dowland would sound like if he were alive and writing today. Naturally, the couple live in a 1789 farmhouse in the scenic and artistic Monadnock region of New Hampshire."Jerry Bowles, Sequenza21.com, January 2004The "live oak" is an evergreen ...
