Nicolas Cage stars as Jack Campbell, a career-driven workaholic who has everything: an exciting job, a Ferarri, a closetful of Zegna suits, and the attention of any woman he wants. His life changes when, after working a full day on Christmas Eve, he intervenes in a convenience store holdup. The apparent criminal, Cash (Cheadle), speaks to Jack in epigrams about his satisfaction with life. When Jack wakes up the next day, he's suddenly living in a New Jersey suburb, where he's married to his college sweetheart (Leoni) and is the father of two children. At first he is aghast, but Jack soon warms to his new life even though he knows that it cannot last. Unabashedly sentimental, the film is also a great comedy, as Cage gives a superb performance that makes the most of his character's obvious disgust with his suburban surroundings and even allows for a few moments of hysterics reminiscent of VAMPIRE'S KISS. Filled with great performances (notably Ms. Leoni's role as Jack's wife), inspired comedy, and a premise that suggests a slightly darker version of classics like A CHRISTMAS CAROL and IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE, THE FAMILY MAN is an affecting and entertaining holiday film.

Theatrical release: December 22, 2000. Filmed on location in Teaneck, New Jersey and in New York City. Nicolas Cage took on the part of Jack Campbell because he felt he needed a comedic role after a string of action films and dramas. The last comedic role he had played before THE FAMILY MAN was in 1994's TRAPPED IN PARADISE, which was also a holiday film.

Family Man Reviews:

"...Moments of veracity and humor..." -- Christine James, Box Office

"...Well-observed comic turns....Handsomely shot..." -- Geoffrey Macnab, Sight and Sound

"...Tea Leoni is lovable....The movie is sweet, light entertainment..." -- Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

"...A truly substantial comedy....[The film] gift-wraps a dream role for its star, allowing Cage to meld his pre- and post-Oscar personae..." -- Jamie Graham, Total Film

3 stars Wonderful movie
This movie makes you think back on the decisions you've made for yourself. The movie also makes you wonder if your decisions were different, how would your life turned out.

5 stars Cage is Excellent!!!
Cage is excellent in this roll as he is in most of his films. He is Mr. have it all or at least he thought so. Once he found out that he really didn't have exactly everything money can't buy. Only Cage could have pulled this off. I mean you really saw the shock of him experiencing something totally different then what he was used to. Cage is great and Leoni is so cool!!!

5 stars Every man's dream
This movie reflects the hope all men have when they think about the woman of their dreams. Who doesn't dream some night with that school girl and wake up hoping to see her that day? Maybe fate is the least expected guy having some good news some day.

The title character leads viewers through an accidental travelogue of American social history from the early 1960s through the present in this revisionist fable. Vietnam, desegregation, Watergate, and more are presented from the perspective of Tom Hanks's loveably slow-witted Forrest Gump as he finds himself embroiled in situations he can't quite comprehend. Hanks leads an excellent cast, featuring Robin Wright Penn as Jenny, Forrest's lifelong love; Gary Sinise as ...

KUNG FU HUSTLE: Stephen Chow's follow-up to SHAOLIN SOCCER ups the over-the-top action quotient by about three zillion percent. The story is set in 1930s Hong Kong, with Chow as a shaggy-haired, would-be bad guy named Sing, who gets caught up in the middle of a war between the top-hat-wearing Axe gang and the hard scrabble inhabitants of Pig Sty Alley. Chow--who wrote, produced, and directed--doesn't step in as the star here for quite a while, letting the comic duties fly in a myriad of directions: a landlady in curlers (Yuen Qiu) has a yell that can flatten buildings; people get kicked across courtyards and through walls; musician assassins whip ghost sabers from lyre strings, and a mental patient in pink flip-flops named "the Beast" (Leung Siu Lung) catches bullets in his fingers. Buoyed by SOCCER's box office success, HUSTLE uses bigger production values and a dizzying amount of CGI-enhanced martial arts (imagine Bruce Lee vs. Bugs Bunny in THE MATRIX). It's full of references to other films and filmmakers, revering spaghetti westerns and '70s Shaw brothers movies a la Tarantino's KILL BILL (fight choreographer Yuen Wo Ping worked on both films). It also pays sly homage to the works of Wong Kar Wai, D.W. Griffith, Sam Raimi, Jean-Luc Godard, Stanley Kubrick, and Akira Kurosawa. Raymond Wong's inspired score matches each cinematic reference with the appropriate cue as the camera circles and swoops around the sprawling sets. This is a real treat, more than a great action film or comedy, it's a great film period, and one that set box office records in the East. THE MEDALLION: Jackie Chan is back in action with THE MEDALLION, yet another fast-paced martial arts action-comedy. Chan plays Eddie Yang, a Hong Kong cop who is working ...
