The film tells the story of a young French woman's struggle for happiness and the turbulence of post WWII Europe. As an act of political betrayal, Andreas, Jeanne's lover, kills Jeanne's father. Andreas sends Jeanne to live with her family in Paris, where he hopes to join her, but he is preceded by the sinister Khalibiev, who pursues Jeanne, proposes marriage to her blind cousin, and murders Jeanne's uncle. Andreas is accused of the crime and is destined for the guillotine if Jeanne cannot convince Khalibiev to offer testimony in his defense (not realizing that he, in fact, is the murderer). Directed by the German master G.W. Pabst (PANDORA'S BOX), THE LOVE OF JEANNE NEY is one of Pabst's most satisfying and haunting films, and one that has only been available in a truncated form for most of the 20th century. Here, Kino on Video presents the film in its longest available version, complete with a full orchestral score. Set in post WWI Europe, the film stars Uno Hemming as Andreas, a young Bolshevik who murders his lover's uncle for an act of treason. He advises Jeanne, his lover, to flee to Paris and live with her uncle. However, the cunning Khalibiev has set into motion a plot to kill her uncle, marry her cousin, and wrest the family fortune from its rightful heirs. When Khalibiev does kill the uncle, he successfully frames Andreas for the crime causing Jeanne to ask his help in proving Andreas' innocence. Mixing the style of a Hollywood blockbuster with that of a classic German expressionist film, THE LOVE OF JEANNE NEY is a haunting classic. Silent film with English intertitles.
The Kino VHS version includes a new score composed and conducted by Timothy Brock and performed by the Olympia Chamber Orchestra.

$10.29 Former video store clerk Quentin Tarantino's directorial debut, RESERVOIR DOGS, is a brutally funny, supercharged introduction to his supremely distinct cinematic vision, which was later to become one of the most mimicked styles of the 1990s. Mastermind Joe Cabot (Lawrence Tierney) assembles a crew of top-notch criminals to pull off a jewelry store heist. As the film opens it becomes immediately clear that the plan backfired, forcing the survivors, who have gathered at an abandoned warehouse, to figure out if one of them is, in fact, a police informer. The crew--Mr. White (Harvey Keitel), an aged veteran; Mr. Orange (Tim Roth), a wounded newcomer; Mr. Blonde (Michael Madsen), a psychopathic parolee; Mr. Pink (Steve Buscemi), a bickering weasel; ...

Love Of Jeanne Ney DVD
$22.09 This horror classic was produced by Universal (beginning that studio's string of brilliant horror movies) in response to the success of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA and THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME. Universal chose two luminaries of German Expressionism, director Paul Leni and actor Conrad Veidt, for the film and in doing so introduced a new and highly influential aesthetic to American movies.
The film stars Veidt as Gwynplaine, the son of an aristocrat who is kidnapped for political reasons before being disfigured by a gypsy surgeon, who leaves the boy's face paralyzed in a contorted smile. Finding refuge in a traveling theatre ...

Love Of Jeanne Ney movie DVD
$16.29 In the tradition of art house thrillers such as INSOMNIA, starring Stellan Skarsgard, and THE VANISHING, starring Bernard-Pierre Donnadieu, comes this chilling drama by acclaimed Spanish director Agustin Villaronga. Klaus (Gunter Meisner), a Nazi doctor who used his position as a means to molest young boys, escapes to Spain after the war and returns to his depraved ways. Driven mad by his inability to control his pedophilic urges, Klaus tries to kill himself, but fails and ends up completely incapacitated in an iron lung. Young, attractive Angelo (David Sust) seems like a savior when he arrives to become Klaus' nurse, but he soon reveals an ulterior motive. Angleo has found diaries in which Klaus details his horrible crimes, and the twisted symbiosis that develops between patient and caretaker once again spurs Klaus' desires and leads to a string of gruesome child murders.
In addition to strong performances by the primary characters, the film features Marisa Paredes, who regularly appears in the films of Pedro Almodovar. The highly disturbing topics of Nazi war crimes, pedophilia, and ...
