(8 Customer Reviews)
Without a trace of irony, Sugar Ray name-checks Culture Club, Men Without Hats and KROQ's Rock Of The Eighties, alongside The Clash and Run-D.M.C. on "Under The Sun," a bewitching track on their eponymous fourth album. The shameless shout-outs aptly sum up the mood on SUGAR RAY, the 2001 release from the Cali-skater punks turned wistful pop stars via a string of late-'90s megahits such as "Fly" and "Every Morning." An endearingly unabashed allegiance to the pop hooks of that decade abounds, tempered by just a splash of punk attitude in Mark McGrath's scratchy yet melodic vocals and a touch of hip-hop bounce in DJ Hurricane's adroit spinning.
While Sugar Ray may have to constantly elude being tarred as featherweight, it's no bother as their brand of light and breezy pop is unreservedly appealing. Amidst the chaos the world dishes out, there's always room for sing-along pop songs like the lush "When It's Over, " the bordering-on-brash "Satellites," and the silly yet subtly funky "Ours." Sugar Ray are that old blanket, undeniably familiar yet providing sweet comfort within the folds of their well-crafted music.
Sugar Ray's fourth album, originally issued in 2001, featuring the hits 'When It's Over' & 'Ours'. 11 tracks. Atlantic.

Rolling Stone (7/5/01, p.138) - 3.5 out of 5 stars - "...SUGAR RAY drifts further from the group's early aggro-pop sound....Their laid-back attitude is infectiously unfussy....pulling sounds together withthe glee of teens collecting cool stuff...from a baking Southside beach." Spin (8/01, pp.129-30) - 6 out of 10 - "...Pretty good...especially 'When It's Over'....And the videos are great, too. Damn the '00s - famous-sounding music is probably going to stay famous for a long time..." Q (9/01, p.120) - 4 stars out of 5 - "...As radio-friendly as Radiohead are not..." Sugar Ray Music Review Average Rating: (3.9 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews This CD rocks! This CD rocks, but it is not as good as 14:59. Almost all the songs on this cd are love songs in some kind of way. But it still rocks, but not as much as 14:59. Submitted by Mike (Wallingford, CT, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Their Best Yet!!! "Sugar Ray" has been Sugar Ray's best CD they have made. The rest of their CDs are also great, but the feel and simplicity of "Sugar Ray" is much more mature and they have developed a much better sound. Every song on this CD is worthwhile to listen to! Sugar Ray's Best cd I'm not really a fan of Sugar Ray I just have 14:59 and Sugar Ray but now I am after hearing this cd.Their old stuff kind of stunk like Lemonade and Brownies and the whole cd floored except Fly.My favorite songs on this cd are all of them but If I had to choose they would be Answer The Phone,When It's Over, and Under The Sun because it reminds me of my summer this year and its just a kick ass song!!!Also their video for "When It's Over" was really funny and a good one too!!!!So even If you aren't a fan of Sugar Ray go out and buy this cd you wont be disappointed because this cd kicks ass!!!!!!.peace)( Submitted by BBBBlink182 (East Hanover,NJ,Usa) Was This Review Helpful? I luv this CD! I don't care what people say about Sugar Ray selling out from its early days, saying they've gone soft and pop and they've become "pussyrock" because this is great music, and I'm not going to dislike a cd just because it's "popular", and personally I like their more recent style much better Submitted by a reviewer (Kirkland, WA) Was This Review Helpful? Its alright... I do enjoy their new "soft rock" music style, but what ever happened to their heavy stuff that was the best! oh well...(not to menchan what happened to naked women on the covers?!?) Submitted by a reviewer (Beauville, H20, H20) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Ozzy Osbourne Ozzmosis CD (1995) Remastered
Sugar Ray songs
$7.59 Let us all be thankful that Ozzy's retirement didn't stick. It supposedly lasted for three days, after which he got bored and started working on this project. Heavy, riff-intensive tunes, progressive song structures and a little psychedelia give OZZMOSIS a definite Sabbath flavor. Ozzy must have been in touch with whatever inspired early classics like PARANOID and MASTERS OF REALITY. Witness the extremely chunky "Thunder Underground," which can stand up next to "Sweet Leaf" and "Symptom Of The Universe" as an archetype of hard rock. The trippy guitar in "Ghost Behind My Eyes" and "Denial" are not some young Ozzy-wannabe going for a retro sound--this man was there, "Planet Caravan"ing.
Still, this heavy metal daddy in touch with his roots is also hip to the genre's latest sound. OZZMOSIS has a live, up-front feeling, thanks to producer Michael Beinhorn (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Soundgarden). Zakk Wylde's huge, raw guitar also plays a major role. He provides scorching solos, lush textures and juicy fills with a muscular tone and minimal effects--the perfect complements to Osbourne's songwriting.
But more important than the raging guitars and the big sound is attitude. Ozzy's spunk has indeed rejected retirement. His songs still spew biting commentary at whoever ...
| | Ozzy Osbourne The Ozzman Cometh CD (2002)
Sugar Ray album
$9.69 THE OZZMAN COMETH is a single CD collection of hits, previously unavailable recordings and one new track. Previously included a limited edition second disc containing 2 of the 4 previously unavailable recordings as well as an interview with Ozzy Osbourne.
As if we needed another reason to believe that Ozzy Osbourne is God, along comes THE OZZMAN COMETH, a double CD retrospective of one of the most enduring and influential figures in heavy metal. Consisting mostly of his post-Black Sabbath solo work as well as a live version of "Paranoid," this collection's biggest asset is the so-called "basement tapes," never-before-heard rehearsal tapes of four classic Sabbath songs. Dating back to 1970, "Black Sabbath" and "War Pigs" are the songs that transformed a petty thief from ...

| | Those Fabulous Gennetts, Vol. 1: 1923-1925 CD (2000)
Sugar Ray music CDs
$13.79 On this 26-song CD, 11 different mostly obscure bands that recorded for the Gennett label are heard. The music is generally high-quality jazz-oriented dance music. Heard from are Howard Lanin's Arcadia Orchestra, the very first session by Guy Lombardo's Royal Canadians (who surprisingly play mostly jazz), the Romance of Harmony Orchestra, the Lange-McKay Orchestra, Ross Reynolds' Palais Garden Orchestra, Perley Breed's Shepard Colonial Orchestra (with Brad Gowans on clarinet), Richard Hitter's Blue Knights, Marion McKay's Orchestra (with a trumpet solo on "Doo Wacka Doo" that was mistakenly thought to have been Bix Beiderbecke), Wally Erickson's Coliseum Orchestra, Henry Thies' Castle Farm Orchestra, and three numbers by the Chubb-Steinberg Orchestra (featuring solos by the young trumpeter Wild Bill Davison). The CD gives listeners a wide cross-section of early acoustic jazz, and is the sort of set that 1920s collectors will love. ~ Scott Yanow

| | Beth Waters CD (2004)
Sugar Ray album
$9.65 Beth Waters is a performing singer/songwriter/pianist from San Francisco, California. Waters released her second full-length album, "Beth Waters", nationally in March 2004.Produced by Michael Winger (Tim Bluhm of The Mother Hips), the album is collection of twelve songs with delicately blend piano, voice, acoustic and electronic elements into a warm spacious sound. Waters appropriately self-titles this album because of the lyrical content. The album features drumming by Ben Mize formerly of The Counting Crows, is mixed by Joel Jaffe at the legendary "Studio D" (Sausalito, CA) and was mastered at "The Plant Mastering Studio" (Sausalito, CA) by John Cuniberti. The album is already attracting the attention the entertainment industry and press. "Sweaters," the lead track from Waters' new album, was featured in its entirety in a January 2004 episode of Lifetime Television's drama "1-800-Missing." Another song from Waters' new album, "Blue and White," was featured in an episode of The WB Network's "One Tree Hill" in December 2003. In the March 2004 issue of Performing Songwriter, Clay Steakley writes, "These songs glimmer like a glass of red wine in candlelight. They're dark, rich and whisperingly intimate. A virtuosic blend of moody Tori Amos piano work and Sarah McLachlan harmony bending, Waters' self-titled release is startling in its depth of texture and lyric...Waters has a firm grasp on the power in the dynamics of her playing and the close, secretive delivery of her vocals." Waters was also featured in the November 2003 issue of Jane Magazine, the Nov/Dec 2003 issue of Women Who Rock Magazine and the Winter 2003 issue of Independent Musician Magazine. "Sweaters" was also published in, "New Songs For Peace," an official United Nations program in November 2003. "Sweaters" has been airing on ...
| | Chris Stills CD (2006) Import
Sugar Ray CD music
$23.29 The belated American release of an album first released in Europe and Asia in 2005, CHRIS STILLS is the second solo album by the Paris-based singer/songwriter. The son of 1960s rock legend Stephen Stills and French pop star Veronique Sanson, Stills splits the 12 songs on this album between California-style singer-songwriter pop and the French chanson tradition. Collaborating with some very big names in French pop, including songwriters Philippe Dijan and Stephan Eicher (who contribute two songs, "Demon" and "La Fin du Monde"), CHRIS STILLS also features a collaboration with Ryan Adams on the final track, "Pour Nous," and a quirky cover of the Band's "The Weight." The American edition features new artwork.
2005 released 2nd solo album from the son of CSN's Stephen Stills & French superstar Veronique Sanson. Stills explores the ties between the 2 cultures that nurtured his life- French songs and American rock. "My French culture has always been a part of my life but it was time for me to do something with it." The album is bilingual, ...
